Default I need a recomendation on a centerfire

I am an avid shotgun (benelli) guy.
Love my hand guns and own a TC triunph BP gun. Love the TC.
I am considering a Centerfire rifle.
I will use it to Hunt deer maybe in the future even some bigger game.

Most of the use will be at the range shooting Targets so Accuracy would be my priority , then take down power.

I think .223 would be to small so I am thinking 30.06 winn 300 or Win 300wsm.
I have looked at savage , remingto 770, and possibly the Benelli R1.
I would like some of your opinions. and recomendations.
I like Benellis but I think I can get more gun for less money.

What round and which gun

If the use is to be targets and deer,I would go with a 7mm-08.

7/08 would be great so would a 243,260 or 308 for deer and off the bench.Neither is bad on the shoulder shooting targets.

If you are looking for a less expensive rifle I would recommend a savage bolt actionin 308 for deeror 30-06 if you really think bigger game is possible. If you are looking at higher end guns I would try the Kimber Montanabolt action ($950.00) in 243 winchesterfor deer sized game or a30-06if larger game is in the cards. The reason I choose the 243 for thethe Kimber is the short action weights only 5lbs 3 oz, and Ihave fired the 308 and ithas pretty stiff recoil. No fun at the range. I generally would not chose a magnum unless long shots a priority.

Jesse, there goes my bubble being busted on my "weakling"308 Win. again!

My suggestions , from 1st. hand experience include 308 Win., 30.06 Spr., 300 WSM, and 300 Win. Mag. I like the 30 caliber stuff for all around medium game killing. The 300 WSM and 300 Win. Mag. arguably much more than needed for white tail, but I would suspect would be a fine one-rifle cartridge choice if you were going to hunt elk or moose (neither of which I have any experience hunting) a good deal as well.

My recommendation for "value" - a Ruger 77 Mk - IIin 30.06 Spr. These are well made rifles that are rugged, dependable, decent OTB shooters with a controlled feed bolt ... and comes with an good, solid integratedscope mounting system at no extra charge. If you need to be frugal, the Savage 110 with the "Accu Trigger" is a great buy. If you can drop a few more coins, the Styer Pro-Hunter is a superb piece of workmanship and innovative design, and everyone I have taken to the range has been a legitimate 1 MOA +/- a "wee bit"accurate OTB .. often with more than one factory load.
