Trying to identify muzzleloading shotgun
I am trying to identify an antique double barrel caplock muzzleloading shotgun I have acquired. Pictures of the gun and all the markings I can find can be seen at:

RE: Trying to identify muzzleloading shotgun
I would be very carful firing this gun!! I have always been told that they can not handle todays power. I see yours did!! If you are going to shoot I would get with a real good gun smith !!!
Just my two cents!! |
RE: Trying to identify muzzleloading shotgun
This gun had been fired with known charges prior to my obtaining it and has been test fired with loads slightly lower than advised from Dixie Gun Works for Damascus Twist barrels. So far so good. Currently used loads are well below advised maximum, with obviously good effect.

RE: Trying to identify muzzleloading shotgun
The pictures are rather hard to discern much from Doc.
I can make out a London black powder proof... and what appears to be a Viewing proof from either London or Birmingham. Do you happen to have any other pictures of the receiver itself? I can't tell much from the picture with the turkey... but based on the proofs compared to the gun in that picture I'd of guessed it was a whole different gun. |
