Lightest highpower rifle avail?
 

More hiking = less weight. Any ideas on some good lightweight rifles to look at that would be good for deer and not cost crazy amounts of money? I would like stainless if possible.

The new short rounds like the WSM that winchester uses in their model 70 have cut the weight 1/4 of a pound down to 7.25 lbs in their classic stainless line. If I was buying a rifle today I would get one in .270 WSM or 7mm WSM. I concur with your goal of finding a good light weight rifle. They also have the classic compact in .308 at 6 lbs but, it doesn' t come in stainless.

I Just picked up a Rem 700 Mountain rifle LSS in 30/06. It weights 6 lbs 5/8 oz, it is stainless with a beautiful laminate stock.

I just checked out that Rem LSS. That is a nice looking gun! Ill have to make a point of checking it out at the next show.

Don' t forget about the Ruger 77 ultralight or the Rem. model 7.

Remington Model 7 and Savage Model 16FSS both come in at 6 1/4# and are both available in stainless.

personally i use this equation: less weight = handgun. thats cause i like ahndgun hunting and i live in a state where rifle hunting is illegal so i have forsaken the shotgun for the handgun

I had not thought of Weatherby. Thanks for the tip. The Stainless looks like a nice rifle. I am going to do some more research on the best ammo to match my hunt.

These are pricey rifles but they are the best I have ever seen and also the lightest...

Corey006-Prairiegunworks does make a fine product but until they are done with the sniper rifle contract don' t even ask then to do work for you.I as well as many others have been waiting a long time for them to finish projects but it appears that until the sniper rifle contract is complete nothing else will be done.

Weatherby ultralightweight and the Remington Titanium come to mind .
