300 WBY vs Rem. 300 Ultra SHORT mag
I am torn between the 300 WBY and the new Remington 300 Ultra short mag. The WBY is a little better in my opition than the Rem ultra but how about the Rem short? I haven' t heard much about the Rem short yet. Thanks, Greg

RE: 300 WBY vs Rem. 300 Ultra SHORT mag
As someone that owns two 300ultramags and has owned a 300 wby I can tell you that I much prefer the 300ultramag.When loaded to equal pressures the ultramag produces more velocity as it should considering it has a larger capacity case.My ultramags also have the edge in accuracy over my weatherby mark 5 in 300 wby mag.Actually neither of my weatherby rifles were any more accurate than my factory 700' s in spite of the extra cost.My ultramags are customs and do cost a little more than the weatherby but accuracy is much better than either of my weatherbies.I have no experiencewith the 300ultra short mag but since their capacity is much less than the ultramag they will produce they do produce at least a couple of hundred feet per second less velocity.

RE: 300 WBY vs Rem. 300 Ultra SHORT mag
Comparing the Remington 300 Ultra Short Mag. with the .300 Weatherby would be about the same as comparing the .30/' 06 with the .300 Weatherby. There is no doubt that the full-size 300 Ultra Magnum is as good as or better that the Weatherby all right, but to my way of thinking, the short one' s only advantage is that you can get it in a nice short action like the Model 7!
