Best air rifle ??
I am looking to purchase one for My 10 year old Son.
Any info would be great. |
RE: Best air rifle ??
I'd buy a $50 crossman. This will teach him to shoot with open sights, safety of using a gun, etc. Then get him a 22. All these fancy pellet guns dont make much sense to me when you can buy a nice 22 for less.

RE: Best air rifle ??
Thanks for the advice. He already has a 22, 243, 7-08 and a 20 Gage. I was looking for something He can shoot with out Me standing on top of Him like I do with the other rifles. Thanks.

Want one he'll hand down to his grandchildren? Get a Weihrauch.Or serviceable RWS 34 .........German quality......AKA Beeman R7,R9 or R1 Stateside.Avoid Chinese and Spanish junk.Crossman has lousy QC................go on a airgun forum and ask around..........Airguns are not toys as they come in .50 cal that can handle deer and boar.I have a HW80K.22[Hans Weirauch] and use it to pot shoot grouse while not spooking big game. The rws 34 is under $200 and has a lifetime warranty..........................Harold

Don't get sucked in by the velocity marketing ployssome manufacturers use as the chrony works like a polygraph. In .177 when a pellet goes subsonic[breaking the speed of sound] it becomes very unstable and inaccurate.Don't use gimmic light pellets as they can and do damage the gun specifically the seals and spring.Better to hit something where your aiming at 900fps than to miss it at 1250..................JMO....Harold *The .50 DragonSlayer's run $650 in Canada

rws great guns. remember the cocking force is not for young kids. 30 + pound barrel break on some of them

RE: Best air rifle ??
Before investing in one of those air guns pick up those aguila super colibri for his 22. I have been playing around with these lately and I am most impressed. Its basically a 22 lr with only the primer, no gunpowder. Just as quiet as the airguns I have and quieter thanthe really fast ones yet it delivers a 22 caliber punch without pumping or cocking. Use them in my son's cricket rifle and a henry 22, no semi autos as they won't cycle action.
If you insist on an air gun then the sheridan 20 cal pump up has always been my favorite. Their 20 cal slug always seemed deadlier than anything else out thereand was always real accurate. take care. |
