.223 suggestions
 

i would like to get into predator hunting and am looking for a .223 to buy. i dont want to get alot invested but do realize good equipment costs more. it seems that to get a good bolt action rifle you have to throw down $500+ to get anything. i dont want to get that much into it so any suggestions for a bolt action .223 for coyote hunting that wont kill the wallet

There's several options to get a yote rifle without killin yer wallet. I would reccomend scimping on rifle to get a good scope. You can go with a good used bolt action rifle,or choose between a h&r/new england firearms single shot,or a savage/stevens new bolt action rifle. Any of the above options shouldn't run you much over 300 with a lil shopping.

My dad has a Rossi in 223. He got it from D*ck's for $125. It came with a no name scope on it but for the recoil of a 223 it has worked well for the last 3 years.

The Stevens Model 200 runs about $279 around here. That's what I would recommend.

I agree.. .The Model 200 runs 299.00 plus you can go with a Nikon Prostaff and some rings all for under 500.00

I'd suggest checking out the classifieds on this site & others. People seem to buy & sell guns with a frequency I could never have imagined, so you're often able to pick up a quality rifle (and optics!) for a fraction of the price of new. And if you're buying from somone on a dedicated hunting/guns site, the odds aregood that they will have taken care of the gun better than one you might find in your local paper, or in a pawn shop.

I bought my 1st "used" rifle this past December, & I'm just thrilled with it. I got just the model I wanted, chambered in a cartridge I've wanted for a long time. Used was my only option, as they don't make it anymore. And I'm FAR more pleased with that rifle than I was with a brand new one I bought last July.

In short, it might be worth a look.

I'm strongly looking into getting a CZ 550 varmint kevlar, in .22-250, the only .223's id personally consider would be a .22-250 and a .220 swift, and since I don't handload I'm leaning towards the .22-250, I think you could get the CZ for $700 ish. give/take and I've yet to hear about a guy not liking a cz/accuracy/quality.

The H&R single shots are really a good choice IMO. The other nifty thing is that they are so very portable in the field! A Simmons scope should do just fine. I would go to a repeater if you are certain you need followup shots, like for pack animals. Savage/Stevens is fine, and the used rifle route.

You get a good hit on a varmint with a 223 and they are not getting back up.

MY suggestion is that u can pick up a NEF with a heavy barrel for a little under $200. I like the 204 ruger a little better than the 223 due to the better ballistics of the 204. but anyways, if u get bored with the NEF handi rifle sence the barrel is so large for a heavy barrel, you can have it rechambered later on if you want to what ever cause its a single shot.

Stevens model 200 will run you about 300 dollars.
