Ruger Compact

Looking for feeback on Ruger Compact, 16.5" barrel rifle. Considering buying one for deer hunting ... 308 Win. I hunt woods mostly with no shots being over about 150 yards. Interested in OTB accuracy.

I have that gun in .308. Actually my 10 year old son uses it. Nice straight grain walnut, nicely blued. Shoots good too, about an 1 1/2 to 2" at 100 yards. Pretty good for a short barrel.

The Ruger's are well made rifles. The rifle you're talking about should fit your needs nicely. And the 308 chambering, although not my first choice, will work just fine for deer and black bear. Good luck should you decide to get it.

I love mine. I have the stainless / laminate in .243. It shoots 1 to 1 1/2 inches at 100 yds. Out of the box. It is a smooth functioning gun and I like it well enough to buy another. My next will be in .308 or 7mm-08, most likely. With the stainless / laminate, it is also a really nice looking rifle.

I say go for it. I really don't think you will be disappointed.

My wife uses that Compact in .308. It's perfect for her. I'm a Ruger fan myself although I no longer own any.

I have the SS/Laminate in 7mm-08 and have put 3 rounds touching at 100 yards before the trigger job (which I highly recommend).. They are great little guns.. The short barrell has little to do with accuracy or speed considering your using short cartridges..

I own two of them one in the 243 and the other is the 308. Both are the SS Lam. Great little rifles.

If you're in PA, there is a used one in my local gun shop. Grey laminant, 308. Sweet little rifle. But I'm lefty.

I bought one of these in 223 for coyote hunting and I love it,I installed a rifle basics adjustable trigger set it down to under 2lbs and shot <1" groups at 100 yards and with a rifle, scope and sling rig under 7.5lbs this is a great walk around and woods rifle I'm sure the 308 would be nearly the samein every sense except caliber.Nice wood and good blueing, basically a sound quality rifle,PS I'm a trigger finatic these triggers aren't aweful but they aint great either and $80 is a small price to pay for a decent drop in trigger upgrade that works. These little guns are pretty useful.
