Ammo is really not that much more than a high end loading in say... 1 of the wsm's. I usually pay $40.00 for a box of 100 grain spire points for the .257

Agree with JoeSmith, especially say if you're comparing a .300 RUM say loaded by federal premium or anyone else for that matter with premium bullets such as nosler or barnes, also, unless you do alot of shooting/plinking at the range, a box of ammo for a hunt at $60 is of little impact on a hunt. I think its funny of late all the Rem ultra mags etc.....high velocity loads by the others, which .300 weatherby has been around for a while now, certainly longer than .300 RUM, etc....

Was it P.O. Ackley who said Weatherby wasn't a gunsmith but a marketing whiz? Weatherby is to guns what lots of chrome is to automobiles. Most of his models are just barrel eaters[:'(]

Roy Weatherby was a great cartridge designer, and a great marketing whiz.

My vote is for 30-378. I am not going to get involved with all the other junk said.

I like the .257 WM. I have little need for big, brusing cartridges.

257 Weatherby and 270 Weatherby are 2 of the finest all around big game cartridges ever invented.
