Single shot rifles

I'm thinking of getting a single shot for my next rifle any suggestions out there as to where to start looking?

My son just bought a Ruger #1-B in 25-06 Rem. 6 x 42 IOR Valada Tactical scope. He shoots 117gr Hornady SST's into .5MOA.

Mmmmmm I'm all about another Ruger and the #1 is a georgous gun. But the price tag on it hurts a bit. It would cost almost twice as much as my MkII did.[&:]

It was on the pricey side. What are you looking to shoot at?

I’ve had both Ruger No 1 and T/C Encore and I would pick the Ruger even if it would cost more...

I second Trailer's post. I had the Encore and a Ruger #1. I still have the Ruger.

I bought an 1885 high wall in 300wsm. I took the rifle to New Zealand for red stag and I love it. It is very and I love the fact that its design has not changed from the first rifle until now. It is a heavy rifle, but that adds to its accuracy andI love a long barrel with the magnums. This year I believe they are offering it in 30-06.

My Encore is my go to deer rifle, when I am hunting horns. However my Browning HighWall is one of my favorite 45-70's. The HighWall is a fun gun to hunt with. Tom.

RE: Single shot rifles

There are a lot of interesting single shot actions available and a person could have almost anything built on one or the other. One of the most fun rifles I ever had was a little .357 Magnum built on the small Martini action. It made into a beautiful rifle in both function and looks and although mine was only for short range varmint hunting, it was a blast. I deserve a sound thrashing for ever getting rid of it.[:@]

Anyway, I mention all this to show you your options for this project may be much broader than you first thought.

I second the 1885 High Wall... very heavy though. I also Love Ruger # 1's, however, some have accuracy issues while some are spot on immediately. May need a little tweaking.
