Stevens 200 (Savage 110)

Wow! I just bought a Stevens 200 (.308), which is basically a Savage 110 with a cheap plastic stock.
I am amazed at the accuracy of this rifle. I put Burris mounts/zee ringsand a Burris Fullfield II scope on it andit is shooting under 1" at 100 yards (sub-moa), right out of the box. It was delivered to my ffl for $280!!

Savage makes some ugly guns but they are accurate. My littel bro has an older Savage that weighs about 13 pounds but will shoot under 1 in with any ammo you feed it.

You just bought the "Godess" of cheap rifles that produce great results...I have been researching this gun and you may have just helped Savage sell another one. Is this gun available in Left Hand?I want to get it in the 300 or 30-06.

Savage rifles are wickedly accurate, right out of the box! [8D]

I love my older model 110 in .308 - it's my #1 rifle. When I had it out at the range a few months ago and had it on a bench rest, I was blown away by the accuracy - I mean,I've never shot a rifle that good! ;)

For you fellow Savage owners: Try using Federal rounds. IMHO, for some reason, Savage rifles seem to like Federal. I've tried Winchester. I've tried Remington Core-Lokt's. They all shoot fine, but you definitely notice the rifles' preference with Federal. You instantly get sub-MOA groupings!

I've got the Stevens 200in .243, and I've been really impressed too. It'll shoot 4 different factory loads into less than an inch at 100, and 3 of those loads go into nearly the same impact location. In my opinion, it is the best rifle value on the market.

No one will be able to pull the .223 stevens I bought for 259.00 out of my hands. It isas accurateas most custom rifles I agree the stock sucks sharp edges are the worst part so I sanded the intire stock and painted it. I looks good enough for a coyote gun.

I've tried Federal Fusion 150 and 165gr rounds in my 111 and both shot about 2.5" groups average. I then tried Winchester Super X 150gr Power Points and they shot sub-MOA. But sometime (after it warms up!;)) I plan to try the Federal 150gr PSP's (the cheap ones). They usually sell them for $11-12/box, while the Winchester Power Points cost about $14-15/box.

Regarding the accuracy of Savage rifles, they are amazing considering the cost of the rifles. Savages definately have it where it counts, but I also think that some rifles need to be shot-in before they start to really shine. I noticed that after 2 boxes of ammo the groups started to shrink, and by the end of the 4th box the rifle had settled into a very nice sub-MOA average shooter, the smallest 3-shot group was covered entirely by a dime (not bad for a sporter .30-06).

I really like my Savage. I'll grant that it's not the prettiest rifle around, but I know I can have complete confidence in it's ability to put a bullet where it's aimed. It's my "no-excuses" hunting rifle, because if I miss, it's not the rifle's fault.

Mike

Hi! My name is #40Fan, and I am a Savageaholic. **everyone...Hi #40Fan**

I just bought two Savages in the last three days. Both killer deals. One in 7mm Rem Mag and the other in 30-06 with the detachable magazine. I haven't shot either of these yet, but if they are like the other 4 that I have, they should do thier job.

I just finished rebarreling a 110 30-06 to 35 whelen. I really like it.

If you plan of rebarreling that 7mag you will need a different bolt head for the smaller case diameter of the 35 Whelen.

I had a savage 110 years ago (mid 80's) and it was a great gun. I bought it new in the box for 150 bucks off from some guy that got it for a present and didn't want it. I put a cheap bushnell 3-9 scope on it and shot the crap out of it. I think I used winchester 150 grn silver tips and it shot great. I didn't really hunt with it but I did smack a few woodchucks and crows with it. Mostly informal target shooting. I got 1 inch groups or better out of it off from the bench.

Then more recently I have owned a .22 rimfire savage bolt action and a 17HMR heavy barrel savage and both were plenty accurate as well.

Now I have a .243 16F series but have not shot it yet. I am hoping it will be every bit as accurate as the other guns I have had.

I looked really hard at getting the stevens gun though, but I ended up doing a trade for this gun. I would have been perfectly happy with a stevens and then putting a different stock on it later though. I'm thinking about changing the stock on the 16 as well.

Paul

I've had several savages over the years. All have been excellent shooters and over the years the quality has only gotten better. I can't call the newer Savages ugly. The new American Classic is damn nice !! This 7mm-08 is wicked accurate with the Accubonds.

My savage shoots very well also, but to make any rifle shoot it's best, you have to have good optics and mount it with better rings. I've seen $800. rifles with $69.00 scopes and cheap rings and then complain that the gun is junk...LOL

RE: Stevens 200 (Savage 110)

Savage/Stevens: I've owned Remington,Winchester and FN rifles over the years andthrough the past 5 yearsI've taken up long range500/600 meter tactical shooting using a variety of .30 calrifles including a Model 700 Remington LTR in 300 RSAUM topped with a Nikon 2.5 x 10 x 44 tactical scope and an FN .308 Win custom with a SS10 x 40 both rifles wear Badger picattiny bases and standard rings, both rifles are very accurate and will deliver sub .50 at 100metersif I do my part- then I bought a Savage FP10LEa2 (.308 win,26" bbl, accutrigger,Chaote stock) and topped it with a 4 x 16 x 50 Millet TR1 scope mounted on a Warne pic base and Burris tactical rings, right out of the box -- this stock green rifle shot consistant(3) 3shot groups out of (5).60" or better at 100meters and after a proper break in proceedure this cheap Savage blew the doors off my custom mega buck FN by managing to shoot better scores and hold better zero on target at 5 and 600 meters. The Stevens 200 is part interchangable with the Savage 110,and there are triggers and all goodies imaginable to make the Stevens a true winner in accuracy----- that fancy FN got the boost I just bought a Steven 200 last Thursday,I'm going to play with the thing and see what it takes to sharpen it up,won't take much I'm sure .Oh yah ----the Remington still rules the roost tho.
