RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I had been eyeing a Remington model 7 synthetic s/s in a 260 Rem. for some time. It was on special because they had been discontinued on this particular model. I thought it would make for an excellent rifle for long days in the bush being that it was light and compact. The rifle has been sold since my last visit at the sporting good store. Maybe I should have picked it up.
I do have a rifle chambered in the 7 mm-08. I find this cartridge to be excellent for deer hunting. What’s not to like about the 7 mm-08, short action, low recoil and a treat to shoot at the range... |
RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I don't own a Model 7, but I do shoot a 700 CDL in 7mm-08 and simply love it. Some of my previous deer rifles have been .280 Rem., .270 Win., 30-06, and I hunted for many years with a 7mm Mag. Since I switched to the 7-08, I just see no reason to go to anything else anymore. Great accuracy, short action, light recoil. If you handload, I think they are one of the easiest cartridges to load for. That meaning lots of people I have talked to have been able to achieve good results with minimum work-up.
I'm seriously considering buying another in synthetic because that CDL is just too pretty to be banging around out in the woods.... |
RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
A buddy of mine has hunted with a Mod 7 S/S for several years in 7mm-08 and loves it.. It's a nice handy little rifle... The only down side IMHO is that the short barrel is LOUD...Sort of cancels one of the benefits of the mild mannered chambering...
My favorite deer rifle is a M700 Mountain rifle in 7mm-08...It's a little bigger than the M7, but it is still a relatively light and handy rifle, and the 22" barrel reduces the muzzle blast enough to make it a real pleasure to shoot...It's noticeably milder to shoot than my .280 Rem or a .270, and really does the job on deer..... |
RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I love the 7mm08 as In my opinion,it's the perfect whitetail cartridge in existence! As to the model 7,I would rather choose a browning a-bolt by far.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I have a model 7 in 7mm-08. I am looking for another one if that gives you any indication on how I like it. It is a great shooting gun, Light and is accurate. Very flat shooter. I only have 2 does taken with this gun and both were shot using the winchester ballistic tip X2 or whatever they call them. both were bang flops. Mine is wood with matte barrel. I'd like to get another in synthetic with SS.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I'm currently using a Rem 721 30-06 24" and a Mod 70 7RemMag 26" and wasthinking the carbon stock model 7 would work for all my big game hunting as it's less wt to carry. My thought was to add a 2-7 scope to keep it lightwt. Thanks for all y'alls input.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
My stepbro has one and I LOVE IT. I tried to tell him it was junk and he should just give it to me but he didn't bite.:D Light, doen't kick bad, shoulders wonderful and will drop a deer in his/her tracks w/out any problem. Go for it!

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I bought one for my daughter las year and I love it. She shot her first deer with it this year. The rifle is light and handles great. The only thing that I wish I had done is get it in SS.
I have also been very impressed with the trigger pull on hers. |
RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I wonder if the new Rem 710 comes in 7mm-08? Might be an inexpensive way for me to try one out.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
The model 7 in 7-08 is a sweet rifle. I don't own one simply because I'm a lefty. I have a Browning Micro Hunter in 7-08 and love it. The recoil is moderate even in this rifle that tips the scales at around 7 lb with scope. I got my grandson a 7-08 in the Savage model FYCAK. This is a youth model with detatchable mag and muzzlebrake. That thing can shoot. It even outshoots the Browning. The only thing is the Browning likes 139 gr bullets and the Savage prefers the 154 grainers so I have to load 2 different loads.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
Whatever you do,please stay away from remington model 710-it's worse than anything remington or anybody else has ever came out with.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I own a Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08. I have had it for about 16 years. It has probably been carried morethan any other rifle I own. I primarily bought it because I wanted a short light rifle for using with my climbing stands..... I then liked it so much I started using it in my tower stands too. That one gun has accounted for more dead deer than any others I own. I still use it probably 75 % of the time, and just use the others sparingly to keep them from getting too jealous.
The 7mm-08 is a super deer round. Very accurate and not too bad on recoil, even in that light of a gun. The model 7 is a great gun. It has never given me one bit of trouble. If I could I would buy a dozen more.... The only other gun I would look at in this catagory of short and light deer guns is the Ruger M77 Compact. I own a stainless / laminate in .243. It too is a super gun, and it is a good looking gun too. It is 35 1/2 " Overall length, with a 16 1/2 ' barrel. They are definitely worth a look, especially since Model 7 's have become so scarce, and the prices have jumped. ![]() Caliber: 7mm-08 Rem Barrel Length: 16 1/2" Stock: Black Laminate Good Luck |
RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I had one in 7mm-08 and sold it.. [:@].. But now have the model 7 in 243.. But I just bought a Ruger Compact in 7mm-08 and talk about short and handy.. Comes with a 16.5 inch barrell and really throws up good. I put 3 shots almost touching at 100 yards with it. And just got it back from the gunsmith who dropped the trigger pull to below 3 lbs..

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I had a Model 7 in 308 and have a 7mm-08 BDL, I would love to have a Model 7 in 7mm-08
|
RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I have a 7mm-08 700 BDL and I love it. The round is wonderful and the past three years that I've used it I've taken deer every year with single shot. (I did miss one deer cleanly). The BDL is a little heavier than the 7, but I'm still a young buck and don't mind carrying it, and I do think that a little heavier gun is easier to hold steady. If I would have had the money (I paid 350 for my BDL and had less than a box of shells through it) I think a 700 Mountain Rifle in the 7mm-08 would be a perfect rifle.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I have 2 "compact rifles" 1 is a Remington model 7 7mm-08 the other a Ruger compact in 243 my kids shoot both well and they both have taken deer with each gun but the gun they both prefer is the Model 7 it will shoot about 1" @ 100 yds. with federal 140 gr. solid base factory loads.

" I believe I already am ;) Last week, however, I made possibly the biggest impulse purchase of my LIFE (or for this month, anyway), & sent off some $$ to a guy looking to unload a 700 Mountain Rifle in 7x57. Same difference? We shall see... FC |
RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I owned a model 7FS and a model 7 stainless both in 7mm-08.Both would shoot sub MOA with handloads.I much prefer either over any A-bolt.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I have the 7mm-08 in the model seven and love it. It is a sweet shooting little rifle. Originaly got it for my sister for elk huntingbecausitslighter and easierto pack around on those death marches. I started shooting it last year and she is going to have trouble tryingto steal it back.

RE: 7mm-08 Model 7
I have a model 7 in 308 and it is my go to gun.VERY good shooter. The 7/08 is a fine round.while I'm a 30 cal kinda guy it's hard to ignore the sectional density and BC of 7mm bullets.
