Last fall I purchased a Remington 870 combo from Gander Mountain. Package included a 28” smooth bore barrel and a 23” rifled barrel with a cantilever scope mount. I mounted a Nikon Pro-Staff 2-7x 32mm shotgun scope on the slug barrel. I have been extremely happy with the whole package included scope. Shoots 2 ¾” – 3 ½ " shells. Slug barrel is very accurate. I shot this doe through the heart at 110 yards with a Hornady SST. See attached photo.

Yes , I have one in 12 gauge and my son has one in a 20 gauge! If I'm not mistaken I think every cop car in the USA has one in it as well!!!!!

But yeah, the serious answer:Remington has sold what - about eleventy bajillion 870s? I'm not a huge Remington fan, but think of the 870 as the 30-06 of pump shotguns: may not be the fanciest, but it's reliable, it will fit about 98.8% of your shotgun needsand it will do its part to get the job done.

870's are great shotguns. Personally I prefer an Ithaca model 37 or even a Browning BPS over the 870. That's not because I think the Ithaca or the Browning are better guns then the 870. It's because they fit me better, that all. [/align]
