I carry a Ruger P-97 as a sidearm when bowhunting. We have a problem with wild dogs. I load it with 200gr. lead SWC at +p velocity. The results are devastating!
If I were in bear country I would load it with 230gr FMJ to +P velocities. If 8 rounds of that won' t " get it done" I really am in trouble!
