RE: REM 870 SLUG OF CHOICE
I tried the buckhammers yesturday. I am usually not bothered by recoil. I shoot a .450 guide gun often and other hard recoiling guns. These are in no ways even close to the old remington sluggers. These will rattle your teeth. They shot very well though. So I guess its a trade off.

RE: REM 870 SLUG OF CHOICE
bucksnortinted, I have the same gun and have had great groups with Rem CorLokt, Rem Copper Solids, and Winchester Supremes. All are around 385 grain sabot style slugs going about 1900 fps and will keep a ragged hole at 50 yards, and 2 inches at 100yds.
I hope you have the same accuracy. Good luck. -Bulz |
RE: REM 870 SLUG OF CHOICE
Bulzeye,I am sorry to tell you this but I did not buy the 870,instead I purchased a T/C Omega and the reason I did not purchase the 870 was not that it is not a good gun but I am gonna use it for whitetails and where I will be hunting I can shoot out to about 240yds. thats why I chose the T/C over the 870 was because of the distance I can shoot and I will be in a shotgun area, there is some decent bucks running around where I am going and plus we have a muzzel load season here as well so I can have an extended season also, maybe this coming year I'll pick up a shotgun, these are all good reviews I'm learning alot by reading them..........Ted

ORIGINAL: diehardhunter Every gun is differant so the same model wont shoot the same ammo the same. To find the most accurate ammo out of your gun buy several boxes and let the gun decide. I would give Hornady SST's a try. Die Hard 12 Days!!! |

Alittle over 3 high at 100 yards. Dead on at 150, and 8 inches low at 200. They are very impressive slugs my 3 shot group at 50 yards was just 1 large raged hole. My groups at 200 yards were about 6 inches. |
RE: REM 870 SLUG OF CHOICE
it depends on the twist of your barrel, the fancy new high velocity slugs are very picky, i shoot an 870WM with a hastings 24" cantilever barrel (1:34 twist) the SST's wont group onto a pie plate @ 50 yards.... best to have a 1:28 twist barrel for the faster slugs ( MV>1600fps). I would recommend the buckhammers or hastings slugs, as they both have an attached sabot and are VERY accurate. ( 1" groups @ 50 yards) brenneke golds are good as well but the will foul the bore with lead fairly fast
