Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag.
Anyone shoot this gun? My wife is getting me one for deer season. Any good load recommendations? This one has the 4 5/8 inch barrel. I had a 41 Dan wesson many years ago but only loaded silhouette loads for it.

I shoot a Ruger Redhawk in 41 Mag.. I don't reload anymore but I can give you a recommendation of factory loads. I use CorBon 250gr HC loads for hunting. On paper they have the same ME as a 44 Mag 240 factory load, but with a little less kick. For practice I shoot Remington 210 SWC ammo. It is pleasant to shoot. Good luck!

Thank you sir. I have some 210 grain SWC to start out with. I will try the Corbons though

James...I've been loading 200 gr. Speer JHP over 21.0 gr. H4227 and my 6 1/2" Blackhawk shoots it nice.

Have a 6 1/2" BH in .41 mag, a Acusport Bisley in .41 mag (safe queen) and a standard Bisley in .41 mag on lay-a-way. Forget my load but it's a Speer on top of a god amount of powder. Hot stuff. Those shorter bbled one are baby rockets!

RE: Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag.
I was wondering if it's too late to get 6.5" barrel. I have had 2 .41mags and loved em both. It's been too long for me to remember what their fav load was but all guns are different and what shoots good in 1 gun may not shoot in another.

RE: Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag.
I really like Blue Dot for a powder in my 41 and 44 revolvers. I've tried 4227, its easier to measure but blue dot ends up being economical (without leaving the case nearly empty like unique) and gives velocities that are top-level (Stick with H110/W296 if you want max vel barn burners). It also gives a nice flash if you shoot at dusk:D:D:D
I prefer lead cast bullets for all my revolvers...targets and hunting. As long as you get them arriving at the animal over 1000fps I suspect you'll never need anything else. |
RE: Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag.
Thanks to all. When we looked at them at Gander in Fargo, they had a 7 inch barrel model as well. That is 6 and a half or seven inch.

RE: Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag.
If it's the regular blued BH, it's 6 1/2". The only 7 1/2" single action Ruger has made chambered in .41 magnum was theDavidson's run of the SBH Hunters and the standard cataloged model Bisley.

I didn't measure it but it was in that length range.
