2nd owner 1911 or a High Power or clones .I picked up a Feg 2 years ago new 450 paid 275 , had a little holster wear . With fees you can get "Springfield Armory" around 500 .Just a forged steel junkie I guess .

+1 for xd. Also ruger P-series can be had for around 350-400 new. They are a little bulky for a cc piece, but very reliable and good home or truck gun.

Another vote for the ruger P-series.They are bulky but I have big hands so it fits me ok,but mine has never jammed!!!!

what about the sig mosquito? i like sig pistols. I also like the xd

doubleA 07-23-2007 09:25 PM

RE: Pistol $500 and under

The Mosquito is a nice little .22 auto, it's a tad bigger that the Walther P22. They do have the feel of it's bigger siblings in the 220 series of CF's and can be had in a scoped /red dot package.

You didnt mention what the pistol's intended purpose was, if it's for self defense I would'nt reccomend it, now for general plinking/fun and getting aquainted with pistol ...yes

RE: Pistol $500 and under

well its for general shooting small game and also self defense weapon.
I want something with some power. so i was thinking 40 or 45 but also 9mm because its a little cheaper.

ranger56528 07-26-2007 08:32 PM

RE: Pistol $500 and under

S&W has a nice 9mm out,I looked at it in passing.I think it was a 908 or something like that, myself I have a CW9 and a CW40 Karr for CCW,but the Smith caught my attention as another I might buy too add to my 9m collection....

If it isn't for carry, spend another $100 ($600) and get yourselfTaurus' version of a1911.

It will blow your socks off! I don't know of a better deal in a pistol.

no brainer. Buy a Springfield. They have a somewhat new model, the XD compact .45
you can get this I think with a 13 rnd Mag + 1 in the tube. Hard to beat that. They are accurate and reliable. I have had several friends that were die hard glock fans begin to reconsider after shooting mine. I have the Tactical in the .40 and will be buying the compact .45 when I get home from Iraq.

I've read good things about the S&W M/P and the Beretta PX4 Storm...I think both are in your price range, quality built firearms.

High Point is pawn shop garbage. Don't waste your money.

Springfield is a good choice. You could get an XD or you could also get one of the 1911 Mil-Spec WWII models for around $350 when I got mine. They are a great deal.

I got this one: http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=16

There are various versions available. Not sure what the price is these days.

Gotta agree on all points. The 1911 milspec pistols are very well made 1911 for the price.

The High Point's are not my cup of tea but don't sell the ugly critters short. I have shot several of them a lot and they function pretty darn well. We ran a thousand rounds of ammo through two of them, a 45 and a 9MM without cleaning and had no malfunctions. I would be afraid to bet that any brand could do this every time. They are however to ugly to take out in the day time.:D

I bought this from a guy that needed some money. And yes I gave him exactly what he was asking for it...$400. Came with 4 mags and 800 rounds of ammo. H&K USP 40. This is the nicest semi auto I've ever shot!

kdvollmer 08-11-2007 09:45 PM

RE: Pistol $500 and under

now THAT was a steal for a gun. I bought an HK USP Compact for aout 800 out the door, and generally the Fullsize USP are more $$$$. That would be another GREAT suggestion if you can find a used H&K. Should be able to pick it up for less than the $500 you are looking to spend, and IMHO, it is better than allthe guns listed above.
I know, somebody is saying but, but, but you said buy a springfield, and I did, for $500 that is hard to beat NEW. ut if you can find an HK in good shape in that price, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

good luck.

I've shot a few USPs in.45 and .40 and am very impressed with them. They are amazingly accurate. The only thing that keeps me away is the price. $400 for the gun + ammo is a steal[8D]

I agree with uncle matt, the Tauras 1911, although if you check the right gun stores they usually retail for under 500. I can get a new one from Sportman Supply in Woodward OK for 400. That is a great deal especially when you consider what all Tauras has already done to them. A lot of aftermarket customizing parts are already on this gun from the factory. I really like the ambidextrous safety as I am left handed. They also come with better sights than a lot of the high end 1911 are built with.
