Benelli R1

I decided to buy my Dad the Benelli R1 in .270 WSM for his 50th birthday. Does anybody have one? How does it shoot? Handle? Weight? Etc....

Thanks

I have a personal friend that did the same thing for his dad, funny thing is just yesterday I talked with him and asked about the R1 and he said he was disappointed in it due to the horrible trigger pull and the lack of decent accuracy. He took the gun back and traded it in. I have heard of the triggers on the Benelli's not being good and had the chance to pull a couple and yes I agree they are not anything that's going to help accuracy, not that the R1 is going to be a tack driver.

i wanted one badly when they first came out, feel amazing to shoulder but i've heard zero *good* accuracy reports. my local hoyt dealer has one in .300WinMag and he said it wont group under 2" at 100yard with any load and he is an excellent shot.

How old are the R1's you guys are talking about? I am wondering if maybe (hopefully) they had some issues in the beginning but have got them worked out now. Because if so, and if my Dad likes his, I want to get one with the ComforTech stock.

double a i have heard people say the r 1s bolt slot is very long and open when close and it would let a lot of dirt and debri get in it. i got a browning bar and like it a lot maybe get him one of the new long tracks or the safari mk II

I thought about the BAR, but he has never really shown any interest in it. And he has told me a few different times that he really likes the look of the R1.

An alternative would be to take a look at the Winchester SXR, it looks almost the same as the Bennelli, can't say you'll hear good things about it either, though, since it is, after all, a Winchester.

Which now of course means its really a Browning.

Skip the R1 and get a Browning BAR.
