I have a Stoeger M 2000 right now--which is a great gun. However, I don't have a slug barrel for it and this year I'm going to Iowa on a hunt. We're gonna be doing a lot of driving soI figure I'll need a semi auto--with a slug barrel. It will cost me $200 for the barrel for the M 2000. I was looking at the used guns and found a perfect deer driving shotgun. It's a Remington model 1100 semi auto 12 gauge with a 28 inch bird barrel AND a slug barrel with a peep sight(great for drives). It costs $400 in excellent condition. They told me they would give me $200 for my Stoeger.

Coming from owners of this shotgun, is this good gun? How does it compare with the Stoeger and is it a better deal to get this instead of just a barrel? How will this gun handle, shoot, and will it be reliable? Also, does it compare with the Brownings or Winchesters?

Thanks for the help and recommendations. Let me know what you would do.

1100's only shoot 2 3/4 shells. Are you willing to deal with that?

I have an 1st year production model 1100 12 gauge and love this gun! I just bird hunt with it and always will. I have an 870 Express Slug Gun in the 12 gauge that I use for shotgun hunting deer! You can pick up a 870 Express for around $300.00, just an idea! Good luck!

the1100's are 3" chambers.

The competion style guns are 2-3/4" the field grade are the 3"

1100's are great guns, and that seems like a decent price.

However, for driving, since you have a choice, id get something lighter. Mossberg makes a good, accurate, light weight aluminum auto with nice fiber sights. I bought one a few years back just for driving. My 50lb 11-87 gets too heavy sometimes

The only 3" chamber is the New 1100 G3, all the rest are 2-3/4"!

Those are Early Models (60's), show me where you can get aLate Model 1100 except for the 1100G3 in 3"?

In the mid 80's the 3" chambers were no longer use in the '1100' but were now called 11-87. Same gun with a more ridged frame better designed for the higher chrge shells. They are still around and not too hard to find. There are some of the original 1100-mag's listed on gunbroker.com. But in reality, why the hostility?

You dont NEED a smei auto to drive deer. Ive used a pump as long as i can remember. It works great. Is been on deer, bear, and hog drives. You can go out and get a brand new Mossberg 500 pump for around $250 with both barrels and still keep your other gun.
