It seems like folks have gravitated towards the bullet speed phenomenon!

Speed isn't everything in a cartridge. It matters, but the bestaccuracy combined with the speed that provides that accuracy is the key!!! A 140 grain pill doing 3075fps is no joke! If that combination is very accurate; go hunting and never look back. The .280 with a 140 grain bullet placed in the boiler room of ANY big game animal is going to put the lights out! I would not hesitate to hunt deer, antelope, caribou, sheep and goats with a 140.

Heck i only launch 175 partitions at 2690 from my 280 Mountain... plenty happy with it and all end result performance... easy on my shoulder also... speed is over-rated unless you are trying to remain supersonic on that 1000 yd range...

I have seen nearly 3500 fps from some 110 Hornady HP's though... poor yotes never know what hit em...

3000 fps with a 140 ain't nothin' to sneeze at...!!... That's about what I get in my .280 with a Nosler 140 BT and I've used it with deadly effect on pronghorns, whitetails, muleys and bull caribou at ranges out past 400 yards...

Switch to a stouter constructed bullet like a Barnes or a Nosler Partition and it will do quite nicely on moose and elk also... The .280 is an excellent all around chambering for anything shy of the big bears...

My .280 is a Win M70 lightweight, butI DO own a 700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08, and it's currently my favorite whitetail rifle..
