Special model 700?

Just ordered a new rifle 2 days ago from the local gun shop. I had been looking at the Rem web site and pretty much decided on the 700VLS in 308. I went into the gun shop to order it and Butch, friend and manager, showed me a 223 he had on the shelf. It was a 700 with a 20" bull barrel and syn stock that is shaped a lot like the M40 sniper rifle. I hadn't seen this on the web and he said it was a "Premier Delear Only" rifle from Rem. I believe he said it was called a Special Police model and it is available in 223 and 308. I was planning to spend 700-850 for the VLS but this was priced at $589 new. I had him order on in 308. Another guy working there had bought one in 223 and said it shot very well, even with factory ammo. Has anybody else heard of these? If the accuracy is as good as I was told then this should be a heck of a bargain. I would appreciate any thoughts or opinions.

RE: Special model 700?

Thanks for the reply dway87. I just hope the accuracy is as good as I was told. This will be my first ever 700. My CZ550 in 6.5x55 will shoot 3 shots in just over half inch at 100yds using 140gr A-Max and 48gr Reloader 22. My wife's 30-06 on a 98 action will put three in one ragged hole using 150gr B-Tips and 50.5gr Ramshot TAC. I also have a 22-250 on an Argentine 09 Mauser action that will put 3 in less than a half inch with 40gr V-Max and 38.5gr Hodgen H380. All of these have sporter weight barrels. The 22-250 has a Timney trigger, the 6.5 has a single set trigger and the 06 has original military 2 stage trigger. If it can equal or do slightly better than these I will be happy. Any opinions on scope and where to start at for an accurate load? I was thinking maybe Leaupold VXIII in something like 5-15X range and no larger than 44mm. As for loads I might start with H380, Varget, and Tac powders and bullets in the 165gr range. Any thoughts, tips, or opinions would be appreciated.

Its not the Law Enforcement model. They can be seen at www.remingtonle.com they are called the P and the LTR. The one their is supposedly the "tactical" SPS, it looks like an alright rifle for the price though. You could paya little more and get the LTR, 20" fluted bull barrel, HS Precision stock, parkerized type finish. .223, .308. and .300 SAUM available. IMO
