I won a Rifle Yesterday!
 

Last night at the NWTF banquet I won a Remington 597. It is an autoloading 22. It has a gray Synthetic stock and a black barrel. I can upgrade to Stainless when I go pick it up today for a little extra money. ($20-$30). Is this a good rifle? I currently have a Henry lever action 22. I am not sure if I will keep it, trade it for something else, or sell it. What do you all think?

Lucky dog! I tried last week to win a Browning A-bolt at the gun shop fund raiser.. suckers never did call my cell to let me know if I won, kinda gave up hope. ;)

From what I hear they are decent .22's..

Congrats on the rifle Sharp Shooter. I have a blued synthetic 597 22lr that jams about every 3rd shot. I have sent it back to Remington twice with no improvement. This is a 2yr old model so maybe they've improved since then or maybe I just got a bad one. Good luck, Brett

From what i have seen on the 597's the magazine has a problem feeding and causes jams. I say go try it. If the mag feeds fine you're good to go.

I actualy won a 12 gauge Benelly Ducks Unlimited shot gun a couple years ago with a 5 dollar ticket.

I have one... do yourself a favor and buy some metal magazines... if you can't stiffen the spring then only load the clip about half full when out plinking...esp in cold weather

I bought a 597 in 17HMR as soon asit came out, matter of fact my dealer said before he got it they discontinued the grey laminate stock and went to brown. Came with a grey laminate stock, mounted scope rail and heavy barrel. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I have heard of the magazine problems on the 22s. Check out rimefirecentral.com They have a forum over there with a lot of info on the 597 magazines.
