Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I read an article in the last Guns Magazine abouta gun made by Hi-Point. The gun was the C9 9MM and the article talkedabout for the money it was a descent handgun. It is listed on gun broker from $125 - $160, I am a firm believer that you generally get what you pay for, but is this an exception to the rule.
Im just curious if anyone has had any experience with them? Thanks |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I will tell you right up front I don't own one. I have talked to a few that own them and inquired about them at a few local gun shops. From what I can gather the carbines are neat to plink with for the money and work reasonably well for the price. However I have heard that the pistols are not all that hot. Like said, you usually get what you pay for, and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
I am sure there are those that have them and they work fine. And if you want one to screw around with I guess the price is right. However I wouldn't get one to protect my or my loved ones lives. If someones life is going to depend on it I would be looking for something with a more proven track record. Just my opinion anyway. Paul |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
They don't even make good boat anchors
|
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
P O C !
You may find one that appears to work fine and then POW unreliability. If you must find out for yourself..........buy one and check back in after you shoot it a good deal. |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I checked them out at the pawn shop the other day, (they also sell new guns) and they told me that they are fine for home protection. But they also said that if you plan on shooting it a lot, they tend to wear out in a hurry. He told me that a Taurus would be a much better buy for the money.

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
i have a c9 i have put about a thousand rounds thru it with no problems and it shoots pretty good for a $120 dollar gun i know there are a lot of guns that will out shoot it but not for 120 go to their web site and read the testimonials they also have a liftime warranty

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
Did you tell the guy he was a goof? They wear out in a hurry, but they'reok for protecting your family and home? Surely he holds HIS home and family in higher asteem than that.

A gunsmith friend and I took a 9mm and a 45 out to the range and fired 500 rounds through each of them with no cleaning or lubing. Not a single malfunction. They are ugly and feel like a hammer but they seem to be pretty reliable.

So swamp, tell us what you really think about them! ;)

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I've had the 9mm hi-point for abour 3 years and haven't had any problems at all. It has never jammed or failed in any way. I've used any type of 9mm round i could get the cheapest and it still operates smoothly.
If you want a hunting or protection gun this might not be the best choice but if your looking for something you can use to target shoot it would be worth the money. |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I will GUARANTEE you one thing for sure.
You are not going to find anyone who has to absolutely rely on their sidearm to be carrying a Hi-Point! i.e. copper Could you imagine how badly he would be laughed at by his fellow officers? Hi-Point? ![]() ![]() ![]() |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I checked them out today at the gun show and I wasnt that impressed.
I will save my money for a 1911 Although a friend of mine did buy a Uberti 45colt revolver. that gun is awesome and im sure it is a blast to shoot. |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
Let me say I don't own one but I have heard about them and they are total p.o.s.'s. I would save your money and buy a Kimber 1911 and a Baretta carbine you'll only spend about $2,000. bllaaaahhhh blaaahhh.
I have the hi point9mm handgun and the carbine they are 100% reliable so far and the carbine has been used like a street walker. I have bought some nice guns and like the hi points cheap ones. I am no happier when I go shoot my weatherby I saved so long for or my savage or hi points. |

ORIGINAL: uncle matt Seems swampcollie has alot of knowledge/experience in some less than desirable areas.Must be a heck of a nice guy. Yeah.... Just ask any cop how many high point firearms he has pulled off dealers. Its a modern saturday night special...only you can't melt it down. |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
In one paragraph you say you don't own one. In the next you say you have two.??

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I've owned 2. They are made very close to where I live.
I've never had a problem. Probabaly 2,000 rounds total through them. That said, if my life depended on the gun, I wouldn't be carrying it. When you can buy a 9mm for $85, I don't think that the manufacturers meant for them to be compared to a $2,000 weapon. I like mine for plinking and such. That's all I had in mind when I purchased them. I'm not seeing the point behind comparing them to a gun worth 25X more. Yugo vs. Lexus. |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
dont have any experience w/ the handguns but i love the rifles very accurate reliable and cheap

Sorry about the mix up that first paragraph was sarcastic. I own two and like them very much thank you. |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I should clairify that I do not use my hi pointnine or any 9mm for that matter for home protection. They are just for good plinking fun and varmint hunting. With that said, if the hi point were the only gun I could afford. I would fill better about it than the good old louisville slugger should someone break in.

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
I've been thinkin about getting the .40SW Hi-Point to carry with me when I'm bow hunting.. not for the deer though.. that would be wrong:eek:
|
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
CCRBUM might want to check your local laws here in utah you can not carry any firearm on the bow hunt. Until recently that included conceled weapon permit holders.
|
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
My opinion is they are servicable. They will do the job they are supposed to do. Will another pistol do it better most likely yes. I had the 9mm Compact as my first pistol. I've put over 1000 rounds through it and worked on my technique while saving up. It is a pain to field strip. you need a punch to knock out a rod to release the slide. The grip was too small for my hand unless I used the extended magazine. But now that I have a Beretta Px4, I haven't touched the Hi Point. I also picked up a Stoeger Cougar in .40. That is a nice option for $299 on CDNN. With all of that said, I've never had a misfire or jam or fail to eject in the Hi Point.

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
Toy guns have better triggers!:D
But, if you can't afford an expensive gun and need to shoot, I say go for it! Just DO NOT consider it reliable. I do enjoy taking out my carbine for plinking, and the 9mm ammo is fairly inexpensive too. ![]() |
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
Ok i have an idea, let me shoot you with my hi point then you can shoot me with your gun and then we will make the comparison on the holes
|
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
hmmmm.....seems a little over the top.
|
RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
Just for laughs, but if a hi point was all i had for protection i am sure it would get the job done.
|

RE: Hi Point Firearms....are they any good
Heck ya!
My first handgun was a Llama. I still have it and shoot it. It is tempormental, but it brings back fond memories. And, duckhunter669 has a point.....no criminal will point out a good or bad gun while he is laying there bleeding....;) |
