Remington 7600

Ok. I've been looking at getting a new gun and getting rid of the 710 somehow. Any way I am a lefty and I've been looking at the 7600. Is this a good rifle? I have heard good reviews on the forums about this gun. I am looking at getting a .243 win. And another question is how are the synthetic stock compared to the wood stock on the 7600. Thanks.

That is the best thing you can do is getting rid of the "disposable" 710.
A model 7600 will last the rest of your life and your kids lives. I might suggest getting a slightly larger caliber however. I would go with synthetic stock, possibly in a .270,or a .280.

Is the synthetic stock pretty reliable compared to the walnut stock?

More so,cause you ain't gotta worry bout it warping, swelling, splitting,or getting all scratched up.

Yeah that's true. I just like the way the wood stock looks better.

Ive got a 760 in 308,, If I were too buy a 7600 it would be in 308. I wouldnt worry about swelling/splittin issues in texas. I use in it northern ontario in some absolute crazy weather,, have never had a problem with it and that gun is 30 years old.

I would buy a 760 with a nice wood stock. The older guns have a lot more character and the wood is nicer. If you want an ugly all weather gun they also make a 7600 weathermaster. It's stainless steel and has a composite stock. They were a limited run so they might be a little hard to find. Last ones I seen were at Gander Mountain. You can't go wrong with any 760 or 7600. They are my favorite kind of rifle I swear by them.

I also am looking at the 7600 in 30-06 with the syn. stock. Today it's hard to find a good quility wood stock. You dont' have to worry about the weather or any problems with syn. They are however not as good looking as wood. I don't hear any bad reports on the 7600.

I got a 7600 (in .270)a few yrs back (8?)marked down($385?) at walmart.

Nice rifle, never had any problems with it & it shoots real well to.

I dont like the fancy wood much myself it came with- it use to look nice.(yep its pretty scratched up from use now:D)

That weathermater in stainless, with synthtic stock sounds real nice to me.
(i like im ugly)
