243 new respect
Ok so i have a old ruger m77 sittin in the gun safe for like 2 years un touched, maybe longer. I used it as my "loaner" gun if the situation arrived. Well i was doin a little ballistic research and decided to look into the old 243 outta bordom. @200yards your 243 should hit around 1.5-2" high @100, and about 6.5-7" low at 300yards. This took me aback because i always thought of the 243 as a 100-150MAX yard rifle. I took the big bores for my 200+ shots. With 1225 ft. lb. energy at 300yards its more than enought to take down a deer. I tested myne with 95gr ammo and turns out myne is +1" at 100yards and dead at 200yards, 250yards sets me about -3". I was impressed with my little loaner and am more comfortable useing it to greater ranges now that i have a little more knowledge on it.

RE: 243 new respect
I know what you mean. I have a Ruger MKII in .243 using IMR4350 pushing a 100gr Hornady BTSP. I sometimes start looking at 25.06 or a .257WBY wanting more. THe reality of it is the .243 does evrything I need it to do. I only use it for antelope and it has preformed quite well over the years. The longest shot was 275 paces (pre-laser) and it dropped on the spot.

RE: 243 new respect
There have been 1000yard matches won with the plain-old 243Win. Glad you found out before putting a box of 300 Weatherby's on your shoulder.

I REALLY like the .243. I am currently tryin to find a bare Rem 700 .243 action to build up for a varmint/deer gun.
