Ruger Trigger
 

Has anyone had a trigger job done on a Ruger 77 MarkII? What trigger did you have put on? Could you do it yourself or does it have to be done in the shop?

I purchased a Rifle basix trigger from the bargain cave at cabelas. I was able to get as low as 1.5 lb with it.
For the money I am happy with it

I have Timneys on all 5 of my M77's and have them all set by a gunsmith at 2 3/4 #'s. For work like that I would rather have him do it and accept liability. A good smith will install and do different checks to make sure the gun will not fire on safe.

I have done numerous trigger tunes on the 77mk2s and 77/22s since they came out. You can do a excellent job with the factory parts as long as you include common sense.
Depending on customer preference,I have gotten them down to 11 ozs.

It's not hard to install a Timney or Rifle Basix, just need some mechanical aptitude and the ability to read directions. If your not comfortable doing it bring it to a smith.

I have installed Timney triggers on some and Just changed the springs on others . No problems with misfires . It isn't all that hard to do in my opinion .

4 of the 5 of my Timneys needed at least .015" milled off of the safety. Would you feel comfortable or have access to a Mill if you try to doit yourself and realize it came oversized? Thats one of the reasons I let my smith do it, and I work in a machine shop.

I just had my factory trigger reworked for 35.00. They are at 2lb's and feel very crisp.

I have 1 with a Timney and one that the local ship did. I think I paid $80 for the Timiney and $60 for the trigger job. Both are good triggers now. The one advantage of the timney is you can adjust it easily with an allen wrench. Where as the factory trigger is what it is.

It maynow be a non issue. I just read that Ruger has come out with the M77 Hawkeye which has a new LC6 trigger which Ruger says has a more crisp and easy pull. I checked out the price and they run $535. If the trigger is adjustable it would really be a feather in the cap for them. I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow to find out more.

Nota gunsmith by trade but I've been working on guns for over fifty years . AllI can say is do what your comfortable with
