Bigpapa, A 160 grain TSX will shoot clean through a Black Bear or a big rooter. It's SD is higher than the 270 gr .375 TSX. The 7-08 with the proper bullet can take anything in N.A. (just like the 7x57 has) but I wouldn't go looking for a Kodiak with it!

What 2 rifles are you looking at? I don't know what you want to spend, but I would suggest looking at a Blaser R-93 Offroad (synthetic stock model). If I get a 7mm08, it will just be a barrel for my Blaser. I actually already have a used one located, but it is Canada. My gun dealings with Canadian have been less than ideal. If you have never handled a Blaser, you owe it to yourself (the triggers are amazing). I have had to sell several guns to afford my "Blaser addiction", but it is worth it to me.
where can i find out some information on these blaser rifles?
I'll PM you, since this is off topic.

TSX ?? I guess what I'm asking is would a Remington 140 grain Core-Lokt PSP do the trick on any game in NA? Or would I have to start getting into handloading to make the 7mm-08 and all around game rifle?

I would definitely carry 7mm-08 for bear, if someone else was paying - even better, I'd very happily carry my 30-30 instead. Who wouldn't?

Who is buying?

With the Federal Premium 140gr Nosler Partition load, I would take a 7mm-08 on an elk hunt, black bear hunt, boar hunt, deer hunt...you name it.

You'll probably see a 150gr Partition/TSX load soon, or maybe even the 160gr. Once these are offered, the sky is limit to what you can take cleanly with the 7mm-08.

bigpapa...To answer your question, although I handload and most of my rifles had never had a factory load run through them, I venture to say that there ain't a black bear or a hog on earththat would travel very far after being shot in the ribs with a 140 grain 7mm coreloct from a 7mm08 ( or a 7 x 57, OR a .280 rem, OR a 7mm Rem mag. etc. etc.)....Same goes for most anything else, including dinosaurs and grizzly bears..It's just that for the stuff that might eat you or trample you , you might want something with a little more punch, just in case...

This is the exit wound with a 7mm-08 140 gr ballistic sivertip @ 140 yards.Perfect deer round.I would assume perfect for black bear also.

i am thinking of getting a 7mm-08 myself but i was wondering if it has the same knock down power as the larger calibers? Also how accurate are the factory loads or should you just reload?

Are there any inexpensive factory loads out there in say 140gr. The lowest price I can find anywhere is right at $20 per box.
