Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
Well, I bought it almost 2 weeks ago and finally got to take it out today. It doesnt recoil too bad at all. It ended up being fairly accurate. About 1 MOA with factory ammo. The federal 150 grain loads chrono'd at 3100 on the money. The package said 3200, but I am not upset with that. It will probably only digest my reloads from now on. Two thumbs up from me! EJ

RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
I have a Super Shadow as well and love the gun/caliber. Dropped a muley at about 50/60 yards. He took 10-15 steps and was done. May try it on speed goats next year.
For reloads, I got good results with 140gr Accubonds and Reloder 19. Avg 3038 fps at .8" with a 5 shot group at 100yds. I still want to fire at least 20 more rounds to see if this is indeed the load or if more tweaking is needed. |
RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
I am gonna try to get a 140 grain load that will do 3200. I want it flat! Those speed goats were real far off this year, I want as little drop as possible. Mind sharing your grain weight of powder? EJ

66.5 grains

RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
How fast have you pushed it? One of the few advantages to a 7mm WSM over a rem mag is the sammi rating is 65000 on a WSM and 61000 on a rem. I plan to get 3200 out of a 140 grain, if I can safely. EJ

RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
Sorry I don't know because I didn't have my chrony with me on the day i was shooting work ups. I started at 65.5 and went up to 67.5 66.5 gave me the best accuracy. The next trip I had my chrony and averaged 3038. At 67.5 I didn't notice any pressure signs, but was happy with the accuracy of the 66.5 so that is where I stopped.
I haven't settled on a permanent load as of yet. |
RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
Well, a pal O mine got me a pound of magpro and I guess I am gonna try to load some hornady 139 grain BTSP's and aim for 3200. They say with 75 grains you can get like 3270 out of it. I aint interested in anything over 3200 fps but I'd like to get right at it. They say that Magpro is specifically designed for short magnums. We'll see. EJ

RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
Let me know how your workup goes. I would suspect at 75grs you may be filling the case to full capacity. I guess it will depend on the consistancy of the Magpro compared to RL19. I'm workinga load for my .300wsmusing 70.5of RL19 with a 168 Barnes TSX andits definitely a compressed load. According to the Barnes manual 71grs is max. Of course the Barnes are on the long side some what too.
Goodluck with your workup and keep me posted |
RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
By the way ripstop, is rl19 bar/stick or ball type powder?
|
RE: Winchester model 70 7MM WSM
RL19 is a short extruded (bar/stick) type powder
