Default 338 Win Mag

I am looking at getting another gun primarily for elk hunting and am interested in 338 win mag. Any suggestions on what rifle brand would best suit my needs. I am not interested in spending thousands on a custom rifle. Stainless and compositwith a higher end scope are the way I plan to go. My budget would be less than 2K.

CI, I bought the BRN A-bolt w/BOSSfor a trip to CO and wished I hadn't. If you are hunting between boulders, you better have good ear protection. I love the A-bolt, but not the BOSS!I also bought the BRN BLR in .358 and shot it more than the .338!

I know what you mean about a MB as being hard on your ears. I have someconcerns about recoil but figure to get a gun that weighs enough to help compensate. Many of my guns are ultra light weight because I walk and track almost all day so I am used to being kicked around when shooting. The only ported gun I presently have is my turkey gun Benelli SBE (older without the recoil reduction technology). Lots of data about different calibers and 300, 338, 340 and 375 are all players. I really like the stats on the 338 and definitely won't get anything with a MB. Thanks for your imput too Portage. I haven't talked with you in a while. Any snow yet up in Northern Me? Instead of going to Maine this year I am going to try Ohio...Frank D

The sako 75 stainless synthetic and a zeiss 3x9x40 would make a great package.

i saw a nice ruger with a composite stock and satinless barrel chamber for the .338 adn it was a very good looking gun. i have no use for a gun chambered in that but i almost talked myself into buying it. wasnt even $600 either.

Sako, Browning for the rifle. And Zeiss Conquest or Leupold VXIII for the scope. Beautiful round the .338, if you can shoot it well it pounds game like a sledge hammer.
