Having a proven belief in your load is 100% of accurate shooting. Knowing where the bullet is going to hit and how it preforms lets you have no doubt when the time arrives your bringing meat home or taking home the trophy at the match. I would say the most important thing a shooter or hunter can do is find a perfect load for their rifle. Ignore the upgrades chances are you already found the best. Doesn't hurt to play around in the off season though.

I'll stick with ole reliable. Maybe it should be called the one instead of reliable.

I only have one load for each gun as it means that I only have to learn one trajectory and don't have to keep re zeroing the gun for each load.

If I were using factory ammo, I'd find that one best load and stick with it. It would be too expensive to keep trying everything out there.

However, I reload and find it a pleasure developing new loads with different bullets, powders, etc. and seeing how they perform at the range. This also gives me an excuse to shoot and practice more, which definitely pays off in the field,and I still don't spend as much as I would if I had to buy factory fodder only.

At the same time, I do have "one", well, actually "two" 7mm-08 hunting loads that are extremely accurate in my rifle, and are my "go to" loads for hunting. One is a 145 Gnr Speer SP HotCor for open area hunting and the other is a 154 Grn Hornady RN for woods hunting. Any newly developed load would have to be a stellar performer tounseat either ofthese two "first string" starters.

If you find a factory round that you like and it shoots well enough for you, do yourself a favor and buy all the ammo of the same lot number you possibly can. If and when the lot numbers change, the way new stuff performs for you may be totally different. I've experienced this myself. One more reason to "roll yer own".

I have always used 150 gr. speer bullets in my 270. I've used them for over twenty years. I'm going to use 150 gr. core-lok't this year. I've never shot a deer with a factory load and want to try them.

There are some that are HUNTERS and the gun,scope and bullet are just their tool they use when hunting.

Then there are SHOOTERS who are right into all the different rifles and cartridges and bullets and powders and such. They hunt as well cause that is after all what their guns and stuff are for. (other than paper targets)

And there are lots of combinations of HUNTER /SHOOTERS.

I would guess the HUNTERS who look at bullets as just part of a tool they will use, would get a good efficient load and stick with it. The SHOOTERS are always looking to see what is new and what they can do with it.

I usually stick to one load when I find a load that performs well. With my .22's, I will find a load and then I will make note of the lot number on the box. Then I will buy a case ot 2 of it.
