Marlin Model 60 .22
 

Does anyone here own a Marlin Model 60 .22? I'm buying one that looks like it's in good shape. Just wondering what anyone has to say about the gun. Good, bad or ugly. Thanks in advance.

I have owned a few of them in the past. They are really great guns for the money. Both of mine worked just fine and were plenty accurate. With the right ammo I could get 1-1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with either of them.


They can be sort of picky with ammo though. And yes they are rather ugly, but they function well.

I owned a 10/22 for a while as well and the cheaper marlin was a better gun for me. It functioned better and was more accurate, for less money. However there is no limit to what you can do to a 10/22 as far as upgrades go. I personally feel the model 60 is a better gun "out of the box" though.

If you are getting a used one it can be toss up. It would really depend on how well it was taken care of by the original owner.

Oh yes, the old classic Marlin Mod 60. I've had one since I was 14. Itis now rightfully owned by my daughter (who outshot me with it at the outdoor range when she was 16 years old!) :D[8D]

Paul Mohr is correct about the Model 60. It is very picky with ammo and will get gunked up real quick with cheap, dirty ammo. In my opinion, the best ammo for the Model 60 is the CCI Stingers. CCI is very clean, accurate, and won't cause jamming problems. DO NOT shoot Wolf ammo or some other real cheap $1.09 a box type of junk. The Model 60 will shoot it but will hate you for it. ;) Trust me, you will be cleaning the Model 60 for hours afterwards. It doesn't take kindly to junky/dirty ammo and absolutely DEMANDS to be kept clean. That's just the way it is....

Good luck with the Model 60. They are everywhere - I mean, they are as popular as the Ruger 10/22 and just as accurate too!

Marlin mod.60, also know as the Glenfield mod.60 sold by Montgomery Wards.
In never owned a mod.60, but I do own a Marlin mod.99 M1 .22 cal. a Marlin mod.985 .22 caland a Springfield mod. 187.22 cal....the Marlinmod. 99 and the mod. 985 have never jammed on me.

The Springfield mod.187 feeds straight up and in, no ramp feed!

I love mine but keep in mind that they come with a 8 3/4 lb. trigger pull which can not be adjusted.

I've had mine for 20 years. I love the thing. It does get a little needy when it comes time to clean it, but the fun cancels that out.

I'm new to trigger pull. Is 8 3/4 lb. trigger pull substantial or difficult?

Its just a harder trigger to pull thats all. It probebly doesent even matter with a 22 but it bugs me cause I'm used to my elk rifle with a 2lb trigger.

Just picked it up. I like it already. Can't wait to get out and shoot some targets.
