Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of muzzle loading! What I have to tell yu could fill a book so I will keep it shot. Things I would need to know is what type of gun do you have so I know if it can use magnum loads and the twist of the barrel so I know if it can use sabot rounds or round ball exct. Check out the black powder forum below its a welth of info.

for me in my cva optima a 295 grn powerbelt with a 150 grns of pyrodex.

I use a 350 grn Precision Rifle bullet with the all lead bullet and polymer tip. I use 90 grns of 777 or 100 grns of clean shot (Pioneer).

I have been using Hornady XTP 260grs and 85 grns of Pyrodex and using Large Rifle Primersout of a Knight "Wolverine" for years.

I have had good luck with 240-300 gr sabot projectiles under 100-120 RS or90 -110 777. The past few years I have been using the 250gr sst under 105 gr 777 ffg. For sheer cost effectiveness I shoot a pile of 240xtps under 95gr 777 ffg, then switch as season looms. I have owned Gonic, TC's, Knight and Rem 700 inlines.

This year I will be giving the Savage 10 II a go. The benefits of being able to use smokeless powder are to hard to ignore any longer(legal here), soI just had to try a new toy. I will be running 250gr sst under smokeless powder but haven't fully decieded yet which one, either IMR 4759 or Viht N110 have given me great results.

245 or 295 grain powerbelts and 100 grains or two pellets of powder is a basic load that works in alot of guns. Each gun needs to be tweeked a little, but that is the fun part. Shockwave sabots are a good choice, too.

Just a little foot note to Skeeter's post. For anyone who is new to muzzleloaders and doesn't know this.

NEVER USE SMOKLESS POWDER IN A MUZZLELOADER (unless it is one like the Savage, mentioned by Sheeter,that is oked by the manufacturer).
