Default BAR RIFLE WHAT CALIBAR

IM INTERRESTED IN BUYING A NEW BAR RIFLE. I CAN NOT DECIDEON WHICH CALIBAR TO BUY 308 3006 OR 270. I WAS GOING TO GET A 3006BUT I WONDER IS IT WORTH THE EXTRA RECOIL COMPARED TO THE 308. I WILL BE HUNTING WHITE TAIL DEER WITH IT AND 250 YARDS ISABOUT ALL I NEED TO BE SHOOTING. SINCE IT IS AN AUTO WILL THE RECOIL OF THE 3006 BE LESS THAN ABOLT AND NOT MATTER AS MUCH. I HAVE A 3006 BOLT ACTION THAT KICKS PRETTY GOOD. I HAVE READ THAT THERE ISNOT A HAIR OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 308 AND 3006 INTHE REAL HUNTING WORLD. ALSO WHAT ARE YOUR OPINIONS ON THE BAR RIFLE. THIS IS MY IST POST ON ANY BOARD SO BEAR WITH ME ON SPELLING AND SOUNDING IGNORANT

the .308 will do anything an 06 will do. Anybody who doesn't believe that has not used the .308 enough.

You don't sound ignorant at all, but pleasedon't use all capital letters. Capital letters signifies that you are shouting.

If deer hunting is all you'll be doing thenI thinkthe wayto go isthe .270. Less recoil, but plenty of power to kill deer out to 250 yards and beyond. Of course there's not a nickle's worth of difference between any of them really.

I've never owned a BAR, though I know some who have. It's a fine rifle as far as I know and would probably be my choice if I were to buy a semi-auto, but personally, I prefer bolt actions for their simplicity and ease of maintenance.

sorry about the capital letters i did not know i have had two people tell me that they have had a problem with deer shot with a 270 not leaving a blood trail to follow one of them said that he started using a round nose bullet instead of a pointed bullet andthat he did not have the problem anymore but of course if you drop them in thier tracks you dont have the problem anyway anybody else heard of this

No blood trail is notthe fault of the .270. The bulletwas more likely at fault although another possibility is that the deer was simply not hit in a place that would cause it to bleed enough (externally at least)to leave a good blood trail. I've knocked the crap out of deer with my .300 Weatherby and didn't get blood trails, so it's not the cartridge that's the problem.

I had a BAR in 30-06 and loved it. Very mild round when it is in a semi. I would say recoil felt like a bolt action in 243. And, in all honesty, any of those three will more than adequitly fill your needs. And I agree with Solitary Man, the problem was in the bullet, or where it was hit. If it was me, personally, I would opt for the 308. That is one round that has always had a soft spot in my heart. Good luck, and welcome to the board.

I would get the 30.06; way more ammo selections. I would also go for the collector 30.06 bar rifle that browning produced this year to celebrate 100 years of the 30.06. BTW, welcome to the forum!!!HCH

Get the .30-06. You will have a greater range of loads available. Also remember Browning and the manufacturers of "High Energy" loads do not recommend them for use in semi-automatic rifles. The Speer reloading manual suggests not exceeeding STARTING loads for use in semi automatics. I think you give up some flexibility with the .308 in a semi, and going up to the '-06 gives you that flexibility back.

I'm not a fan of the semis, but that collector BAR sure is pretty HCH!
