454 Raging Bull
I am planning on purchasing a 454 Raging bull and I was wondering if anyone had any reviews on the gun. I have heard it has a heck of a recoil but how bad is it really? Also, do you prefer a scope or just the open sights? How does the gun hold up, is a durable? Any other points about the gun you would like to make I would be greatful to hear. I want to be sure that I am going to enjoy my pistol. Thanks for any help!

RE: 454 Raging Bull
I just sold mine because ammo is so expensive. Very nice gun, recoil isn't as bad as you would think. Taurus makes a very good gun for the money. I just used open sights because I had a 44 mag that wouldn't hold zero because of recoil so I figured I would waste 50 bucks on ammo trying to sight it in.
Good luck! |
RE: 454 Raging Bull
I like mine. I bought it used and it came scoped with a tasco red dot, but it seemed to shoot loose so I've gone to iron sights for now. If you get the 8 inch ported barrel the recoil isn't bad at all much less than I expected. My wife will even shoot it ... but she won't shoot my .44 Smith.

RE: 454 Raging Bull
I was gonna get a 44 raging bull but opted for a 1974 S&W model 29 insyead. The only real advantage the taurus seemed to have was that it came with a ported barell and it was cheaper. They are well built and I would reccomend one. EJ

RE: 454 Raging Bull
There ok for the price, I wore one out after around 500 rounds Tarurus fix it, but it was never close to the one inch groups I can get with the Freedom Arms .454 with 10" barrel. If you get one you really need to reload.

RE: 454 Raging Bull
I was looking at the Taurus, but the grips were to dang small in my hand. I know I could get different ones if I get it but I think I liked the feel and ballance of the Ruger instead. Ruger, good company with great guns, great rep for long life in big, powerful cartridges, comes from the factory ok'd and warrantied to use 454 or 45 colt, and while not much at all, $10 cheaper is still $10 cheaper.
