Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
what's y'alls all-around favorite rifle/shotgun?? I like the Ruger 10/22, Marlin 1886 (35 remington), AR-15, and Winchester Model 1873 as rifles. And my all around favorite shotgun is the Remington 1100. I have a Franchi single shot that shoots a great pattern, shoots2 1/2" shells.

RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
I'm still a fan of the old 870. But I'm becoming more of a fan of the rifle/shotgun combos. Especially since I do a lot of hog hunting in mountain lion country.
![]() This is the Savage 24F in 12 guage and 30-30. Not a bad brush gun. |
RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
Oh man that hita nerve. I have so many different favorite gun depending where I'm deer hunting.
Rifle-Remmington 7400 with a 3-9 Niukon Buckmaster scope Muzzle loader Thompson Center Omega with a 3-9 Buckmaster scope Shotgun Rifled barrel Remming 11-87 with a simmons 3-9 Scope Unscoped shotgun with a rifled Barrel Browning Auto-5 Buck shot gun Browning Auto-5 3 in Mag. with a full choke 32 in barrel But if I had to pick just one favorite it would be a Browning Auto-5 with a 26 in barrel and invector chokes. The best amd most reliable gun ever made and set up like this I could hunt everything. |

RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
Hey DM! Do you have any issues with that scope? Does it matter whether you are shooting the shot or bullet?
I've never even considered putting a scope on mine, thought I would have zeroing issues. |
RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
I don't exactly understand your question, but:
The scope is mounted with claw mounts, so i just keep it in my pack when i don't need it. I can snap it on anytime and it always comes back to zero... Same with the other guns i've had with claw mounts, they have all worked excelent! If i didn't answer your question, ask again and i'll explain further... Drilling Man |

To me, it's the 65 GTO of guns; Sure there are plenty of cars that are faster, havebetter handling, better aerodynamics, more options, more value, etc............But there ain't nuthin like it. :) |

RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
hey DM, you look like you need some help holdin on to that DRILLING, why dont you just ship it to me (postage paid of coarse) and i will hold onto it for you. My dad still hasnt found who has the one i am suppose to inherit. If i had 8k to spare i would get one, that is the top gun on my list. Would love one in 12x12x308 or 12x12x8mm but they are hard to find and $$$$$$
|
RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
You can buy "nice"drilling for a lot less than 8K... I have a lot less than that into mine, even after rebuilding it the way "I" wanted it!
Personally, i like the 16's as they are on the lighter 20ga. frame... The 12's are bigger and heavier. Also, i like the rimmed cartridges better than the rimless in these guns.. Drilling Man |
RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
There are still some Colt/Sauer 12x12 0ver ,243 around if you look a little..............WAY less than 8K also............

RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
Browning Auto-5 smoothbore shotgun.
My dad was a tool maker and he put a flip up peep sight on the gun.It really helps alot when I need to make longer shots on deer. Living in NY we were not allowed to use rifles in the southern zone until last year.He passed away over 30 years ago and I've been using his gun ever since. Even though it's a smoothbore it shoots slugs great!I've tried every brand of slug but Remingtons stillgroup the best for me. |
RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
remington 700 adl 30-06 and benelli 12 guage M2. These are the go to guns fer me. EJ

RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
My favorite rifle is a Steyr Forester in .270 that i used to own. The trigger was so sweet and seemed to shoot any thing. My current shotgun of choice is a Charels Daly 20ga. pump. It only weights 5 1/2lbs. empty and has taken a lot of small game and birds. But i have an old (1920s') Ithaca double that i love too.

RE: Favorite Rifle/Shotgun
My favorite shotgun would definitely have to be the Remington 870. That gun is just perfect for me. First time I took it out hunting I hit 9 birds and missed 2.
