Remington 597 sights.

hey ive had my 597 for 5 years now and i want to take the front site off. i put a scope on when i first got it and never really cared about the front site ( it doesnt effect the scope picture) but it is hard on my case taking it in and out with that site sticking up. how do i take it off? do i just unscrew it and refil the hole with the screw out of the site or would it take a different probably shorter screw?

RE: Remington 597 sights.

Without actually seeing it, my guess is that you probably will want to replace the factory sight screw wirh what is known as a "blanK" screw. They will pretty much match the contour of your barrel. You should be able to pick one up at your local gun dealer if they do any repair work at all, or places like Brownell's carry them too. You will need to determine the screw size and thread pitch in order to get a proper replacement. Some of the reloading supply people (Midsouth, etc.) may carry them in screw repair kits, which are very handy to have around. Good luck....

Now why would someone want to "buy" a screw for a 597? It would be worth more than the gun itself! And besides, he already got the screw from Remington!:D:D:D
