Sleeper

Just got back from AZ. Went to 3 points and did some shooting w/ my dad's guns. He got a new one at Big5 for $89, a Swiss K-31 straight pull in 7.5 swiss...... this was a real gem. groups at 100yds were no more than 1.5" and we took it all the way back to 600yds shooting at sillouettes and it was a dream..... open sights I could smack the ram 80% of the time, theflags told us that the wind was howling but it didn't seem to matter. This was done w/ surplus ammo. I did better with the K31 than I did w/ a scoped 270 shooting 140btsp!

Yup, outstanding rifles. I have 3 of them, I paid $49 for the cheapest one and $100 for the most expensive one. Very accurate with surplus GP-11 ammo- the stuff is match grade ammo, and are easy to reload for- just use .308 winchester data.
I bought a clamp on scope mount for about $75 so that I could shoot it more accurately with a scope, for about $200 invested with a scope mount, it beats the heck out of most commercial rifles prices 2 or 3x as much.

If you haven't already, take the buttplate off and check for a tag. Half of the rifles or better have a tag under the buttplate that has the soldier's name and unit that once owned the rifle. The rifles usually only had one owner, a soldier was issued the rifle and kept it even after his service was over until he was around 50years old and then was given the option to buy the rifle for a small cost or turn it back in. There have been people who have successfully contacted the former owners, all with positive responses from the owners.

where do you find this GP-11 ammo? Thanx for the tip on removing the buttplate, it figures that only one person owned this rifle..... it looks like it just came from the factory.

Most online dealers have it. MidwayUSA had it in stock last i looked. Graf & Sons is importing 7.5x55 commercialy, and Norma has loaded it for years. Graf & Sons also has brass. 7.5x55 can also be formed from .284 Winchester very easily.
