RE: SCOPPING OUT NEW SCOPES!
The question raised here is whether scope companies are putting out better qaulity scopes with more featuresat a cheaper price? I would tend to say that yes scope companies are putting out better quality scopes with more features at a cheaper price. This has come about due to technology increasing sincethe beginning of time!Thequestion I would tend to ask of these "cheaper" scopes is whether or not they can stand repeated recoils from larger calibers, work properly in inclement weather, and provide good sight picture in low light conditions after an extended period of time. My grandfather put a Redfield scope on his .30/30 a number of years back... I would say about 20 due to me seeing it on his rifle when I was young and now my father owns the rifle. It provides the same sight picture in freezing cold, rain, and low light and has handled recoil of thousands of rounds from the gun. Now I know the .30/30 isnt a magnum caliber but it still has an effect on the scope via recoil vibration. I believe at the time my grandfather spent around $350 on that redfield. Would I buy a "cheap" scope... Never I tend to think that if your going to get a high quality product you will pay for it... Leupold, Nikon, and others produce a basic high quality scope for around $125... when you start adding in extras like the mentioned target turret knobs, multiple power settings, and durability you will find that higher end scope will cost more and this goes the same for "cheaper" scopes. I would ask yourself if you would trust a product that has proven itself worthy time after time versus how much money can I save... Would you want your scope to fail on the shot of a lifetime due to low picture quality, fogging, or not holding zero? I can say that I would never want that to happen at any time!
