Remington SPS

I just got a couple of Remington SPS stainless rifles from Zander's. Kinda nice to see big green is at least a little bit responsive to what the shooters want (or think they want). These 2006 models no longer have the ISS bolt lock, are equipped with the Limbsaver recoil pad, and come with longer barrels. The .243 sports a 24" tube and the .300 Win Mag has a 26" barrel. Nice going, BG. :)

Roskoe I shot one in 7-08 in for a guy a couple of months back and the accuracy was probably the best I have shot out of a 700. Finish wasnt great but it was nearly a 1 hole gun out of the box with core lokts.

For a rifle thats priced under 400.00, I don't think they can be beat. I looked at one last week in 223 with a 24 inch barrel for 389.00. I would bet it will shoot sub inch groups from shot one. The last several that I have have been flawless.

i bought one a year and a half ago when they were brand new... i had to order it from the warehouse they were so new in fact, the dealer didn't have any in stock yet, the first shipment had not arrived... but anyway... i turned it into a custom rifle... i only wanted the action... when i disassembled it and indicated everything in the lathe, dimensionally it was spot on... i never shot it, but as far as holding tight tolerances, squareness, runout, concentricity, etc... i think big green must have retooled for 05... a few rifles built in the late 90's up to about 04 that i'd taken apart were worse and worse for dimensional quality... this is the first action i've never really had to touch... with the douglas tube on it, i can't bitch... 5 rounds in the size of a dime from a 35 whelen AI... since new the SPS has not come with the ISS...

I just finished truing up the .243 action. It wasn't anything special in terms of quality control - after zeroing the action's runout on the bolt axis, I faced off the lugs and front of the receiver; then single pointed the threads. Had to go up to 1.075 to get the full thread cut -nothing to write home about.
