Looking to buy a hand gun for my 21st B-day
 

So its soon to be my B-day and in Wi its 21 years old to buy a hand gun.....Well i want one as a back up for huntin. I plan to bear hunt with a bow and deer hunt, but i want my back up pistol.

I am definatly broke cause of college, but i want a nice gun.

Yall have any ideas of what caliber, manufacturer or any other ideas please let me know!

i think you should get the ruger 45.cal. p345 its really cool but costs about 400-500 dollars.

If I were getting one as a backup for bear hunting, I'd probably get a Ruger Redhawk or Super Redhawk in .44 magnum. It will also take deer at short range.

Stay with a .44mag or .454 and go used. Buy a Ruger or a S&W and call it done. Any combination of those criteria will be common enought to be on the used market and last 3 or 4 lifetimes. Shooting 45s in for plinking in the .454 will probably cheaper than trying to shoot 44specials in the 44mag.

Hard to beat a ruger in .44 mag. But taurus also makes a good 44. Ruger also makes a 480 ruger caliber that ups the ante a bit. Evidently S&W sut came out with a new caliber (I think it is called th 475 SW) Anyway it is a high velocity spitzer type bullet.
Soilarch is right on with the 454 cassull. It is a hand full but you can practice with 45 colt.
I know two naturalists who are in grizzly country alot in Alaska. they both carry the marlin guide gun lever action (model1995-G I think it is). One carries the 45-70 and the other carries the 444 marlin.

Treat yourself to a Desert Eagle in 50AE not much it won’t stop at close range, the first time I used one it took a week to get the smile off my face.

I n Alabama you can't carry any firearm when in bow season only. I noticed no mention of the Ruger Super Blackhawk, much less expensive than the Red Hawk and lighter as well. Mine has 7 whitetails to it's credit.

I have the P97. I paid $379.99. No complaints here about ir or Ruger.

If the cost is not out of reach, I like Ruger Single Actions. They are safe, strong, and fun to shoot, in a variety of calibers. True they are slower to reload, but if you need more than 6 rounds to zap something hunting, I would suggest a change in hobbies. (Or some serious range work.)

My personal experience is that single actions are easier to train up on. They rock back in the shooters hand, moderating the rock & roll that accomodates serious hunting calibers. In comparison, the old reliable M1911 45 Auto intimidates people both front & back. For some, not all, autos take more train up time. Funny, the one person that I taught to shoot that took naturally to a 45 auto was an Israeli soldier. I don't know what he had, but wish I could have bottled it.

Ruger Blackhawk in 44 mag. Its true though, in our state it is illegal as well to carry any firearm while bow hunting so check your states laws.
