Been years ago but my son started with a new england 30-30. He broke a firing pin (to much dry firing per gunsmith) but other than that it shot fine. I believe at least at the time you could swap barrels on them

Yes. Cenetrfire, shotgun, and muzzleloader barrels are interchangeable on the newer model rifles(Serial number starting with N, "I think" or higher)with an SB2 frame. It's recommended to have the factory fit thebarrels to your frame.

I had a .233that would shoot pretty good (average 1.5" for 5 shot 100 yard groups) for a $200 gun.

I bought a NEF in 243 this summer and Love it! I shot a large doe with it at 160 yards. It keeps groups right around an inch at 100. It is more accureate than I am. Anyway, you can get additional barrels for them at the tune of 90 dollars a piece but you must send them the action without the barrel and they will fit it for you. Good rifles for the dough. EJw

Yep good guns for the money i agree& as said also you can get barrels for around $90(or less plain shotgun barrels etc) If you send them in . My 223 handi rifle shots pretty well to me & so far no problems.

I own one in a slug gun, 12 ga heavy barrel. I really like it, simple accurate and dependable. Not to mention the price was right.

I recently sold my NEF .223 heavy barrel varmint to a friend for his son. The gun shot 7/8 to 1 1/8 " groups at 100 yards all day long. Never gave me any trouble and was fun to shoot. Hard to beat for the money.

Save yourself some trouble and buy a TC, lol

Ya know I like T/C's better, but it is that $500.00 for a single shot I cant seem to reconcile with. They are prettier and feel better but the extra barrel program kinda stinks, the price I mean. EJ

My dad's wanting one just as a muzzleloader. Any opinions? Right now he shoots a CVA Optima. Is the NEF a better choice?

It is a heck of a muzzleloader! I shot it this year to zero in with two other guys with a CVA and a Knight. I out shot them with one inch groups at 100 yds. with a lot cheaper gun. And I like the look of wood and blue. Great gun. Tony!

You are right. They are a great value.

I like the gun, I like the option of various barrels...

My problem with the whole thing, albeit a small one, is that you have to send the receiver/frame in to get it fitted for each barrel you decide you want. If I understand the law right that means a guy would have to have it sent back to a shop with an FFLwhich adds at least 20-25 dollars to the bill plus the inconvience and gas moneyof having to pick it up (if you live out in the sticks like I do it is an issue). Not to mention not being able to "play" with your toy while it is away at the factory.

Not necessarily a deal breaker but not ideal either......

You don't need an FFL to send an NEF back for new barrel. You just box it up and mail it off. No need to get an FFL when they send it back either. I have sent several back for new barrels. Its fast and easy. Its true that I would rather see a deal like the T?C's where all barrels fit without sending them in for fitting but look at the price difference. No contest. With the new extractors, the sticking brass should be a thing of the past also. They are a good value. Not a bench rest rifle for sure but they have good hunting accuracy and some are real tack drivers. I have or have had a dozen of them, most were more than satisfactory. Try one, I think you will like them.

Really!!?? Man that IS great news. I wonder how they get around sending a gun to a residence?

RE: New england firearms??

Probably because you had to do a background check initially to buy the original rifle. EJ

Hi guys. I found out, last year, that you don't even have to go through a FFL dealer to send a hand gun back to the factory. I sent a Kel Tec 380 back for repair. All I had to do was box it up and drop it off to UPS. It was returned to my home the same way.

I have one in 17HMR and that thing is a tack driver. The trigger is not the best, but it shoots consistently accurate.

Do you have issues with ejection of the brass? I have been posting on the subject and my problem is lessening, but I want to rely on it more as a hunting rifle. I think I am gonna have the chamber polished. It is a dandy shooter! EJ

I have never had a problem with that. Knock on wood!

To you guys wondering about "how your getting it sent back to the house" I think it's because you are not transfering a firearm, I belive I can send any rifle I already own(used that cause I don't own a pistol)to me C/O anyone anywhere, now I'll grant you I'm supposed to be the one opening it but you can do it. Check BATF website.

I just bought one last year ........stainless/syn. , regular barrell .223 NEF!!

Great value and very durable !

Extremely accurate with the Winchester white box 45 grn varmit loads !!

With 60 grain Fed. NP I know it will drop a doe at 125 yrds with a shoulder shot !

I had read and I have delt with the fact that it doesn't eject the shells well ! My has hung up several times ! I need to get the barrell polished where the shells go in and it should solve the problem easily !!

I think it's a great gun for the money ..............and a ton of fun!! :D
