RE: Winchester Model 70 Trigger pull
How smooth is the m70 trigger? As smooth as most factory triggers out of the box IMO. Can it be adjusted at home? I guess so if you know what you are doing, but it voids any factory warranty (or so my gunsmith told me). I had my gunsmith adjust mine down to 3 lbs, and it works fine for me.

RE: Winchester Model 70 Trigger pull
The M70 triggers are about as good as any of the "Lawyer triggers," these days! If you know what you are doing, you can lighten the triggers yourself. I spent a few bucks and had a Gunsmith do both of my M70's. On both of them, you'd have sworn that I had the whole guns worked, instead of just lowing the trigger pulls! It cut my groups down to less than half of what they were!

RE: Winchester Model 70 Trigger pull
In my opinion the Model 70 trigger is one of the best on the market. Adjustment is very easy - - a spring with a jack screws through it and two locking nuts.
If you know what you are doing adjusting it is easy... but I would be very leery of setting it to "hair trigger" lightness, unless all I ever did with the rifle was bench shooting. A trigger pull guage would be a very good thing to have if you do much of this. |

For what it's worth Ranchhand - if you decide not to try it yourself, a gunsmith will probably charge you very little (my experience). I was very happy after I had mine adjusted - I think it's between 2 and 3 lbs and it made a huge difference.
