LIGHTFIELD SABOT QUESTION

shot a deer at 40 yards with 3" lightfield commanders. square in the chest there was no damage to the diaphragm. do you think this load has enough energy/penetration to do a clean kill at 100+ yards or is that pushing it for this load.at 100 yards has 1623 lbs energy, 125 yards1389 lbs, 150 yards 1218 lbs. like to hear all opinions please.

RE: LIGHTFIELD SABOT QUESTION

Sure, it has enough. But not with risky shots like in the chest or thru the shoulder or up the rump.

I myself would not have shot at the chest. Waited until broadsided. If it never got broadsided,I would have let it go. There's always more deer. There's not too much to the boiler room shot. The lungs are very easy to penetrate, and if you hit the heart, its just a bonus, you don't need a pass thru at that point. It doens't take much to penetrate the broadsided shot if put correctly.

RE: LIGHTFIELD SABOT QUESTION

Just shot one at 9o yards quartering away. Using 2 3/4 inch lightfields. Did a good job on the lungs etc.. Deer did go about 90 yards after shot, but left a good blood trail. But I agree with bigcountry wait on a good kill shot.

RE: LIGHTFIELD SABOT QUESTION

I shoot these out of my 1300, and at 75 yards can keep the slugs inside of 2". BUT!! At 100 yards they are all over the target????? That's why I try to keep my shoots under 75 yards!!
