257 WEATHERBY
:DI JUST PURCHASED THE VANGUARD STAINLESS PACKAGE IN 257 WEATHERBY. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE CAN SAY THERE BAD, TRIGGER ETC. MINE SHOOTS ONE HOLE GROUPS AT 100 YDS. WITH THE 100 GR. HORNADY INTERLOCK SP. AND THE TRIGGER IS ADJUSTIBLE. PAID $700.00 COMES WITH SCOPE 3-9 BANNER, SLING AND HARD CASE! I COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER OUTFIT AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE PRICE.

RE: 257 WEATHERBY
In my opinion the Vanguard is an underrated rifle. Its bolt is very similar to a Remington and has the advantage of having an M16 style extractor. This is a better & more reliable extractor than the Remington's. I have a Smith & Wesson 1500 in 25-06 that shoots extremely small groups with handloads. The Smith & Wesson & Vanguard are both produced by Howa out of Japan. The Smith & Wesson is no longer available but my next purchase will be a Vanguard in 300 WSM.

RE: 257 WEATHERBY
I bought the Vanguard MOA in 257 Whby and love it. Wish I had a SS gun, but alas, it still shoots well. Handloads, put 3 shots in the bullseye, on top of each other.

RE: 257 WEATHERBY
YES WEATHERBY DID A GREAT JOB WITH THE NEW PACKAGE SYNTHETIC/STAINLESS WITH THE SCOPE, CASE AND SLING FOR AROUND $700.00 MY 257 WBY. SHOOTS 3 IN ONEHOLE AT 100YDS. WITH THE 24 INCH. BARREL YOU ONLY DROP 50 FPS AT 100 YDS. THE RIFLE HANDLES BETTER THAN ANY RIFLE I HAVE OWNED IN THE PAST AND ALSO SHOOTS BETTER.

RE: 257 WEATHERBY
YOU ONLY DROP 50 FPS AT 100 YDS. |
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
I CALEED HORNADY TECHS. ABOUT SHOOTING MY 100 GR. HORNADY INTERLOCK SPIRAL POINT IN A 257 WBY. VANGUARD SYNTHETIC STAINLESS WITH A 24 INCH BARREL ABOUT HOW MUCH FPS I WOULD LOOSE COMPARED TO A 257. WBY. WITH A 26 INCH BARREL. THE HORNADY TECH. STATED 25 FPS EVERY 50 YARDS. I WILL BELIEVE HIM BEFORE YOU!
|
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
That is 25 FPS per 50 yards MORE than the 26" barrel would lose, or about300 FPS total. I don't know of ANY cartridge that will only lose 50 FPS in 100 yards.
|
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
YOUR ONLY LOOSEING 250 FPS AT 500 YDS!
|
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
I don't know of ANY cartridge that will only lose 50 FPS in 100 yards. Because no bullet has a ballistic co-efficient high enough to lose only 50fps over 100 yards. |
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
CALL THE HORNADY TECHS. AND TALKED TO THEM!
|
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
As an example if you start the 100gr ballistic point at 3500fps the velocity at 100 yards will be 3230fps and at 500 yards it will be 2294fps.In other words it will lose 270fps over the first 100 yards and 1206fps over 500 yards. This data taken from the nosler reloading guide number four.
Obviously you did not understand what the tech was telling you.He should have provided a fps per inch of barrel figure and not a fps per yardage figure. |
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
paddle,
you need to talk with that hornady rep again.Barrel length does not affect how fast a bullet loses velocity once it has left the barrel. Barrel length affects muzzle velocity. Oh and these guys are correct, Your 100gr spire point is going to lose alot more than 50 fps in the first 100yrds. Look at some ballistic tables for proof. |
RE: 257 WEATHERBY
I WILL, THANKS FOR THE REPLY. AND HAPPY HOLLIDAYS.
