Low Recoil Loads
Recently I used Remington low recoil ammo in an autoloader and the shell casings wouldn't fully eject. Has anyone else had this problem with low recoil rounds in an automatic?

RE: Low Recoil Loads
The low recoil loads will not cycle a semi auto rifle.
Gas operated rifles must have a specific pressure curve inside the barrel for a specific ammount of time to operate properly. The low recoil loads do not generate a pressure curve large enough or for a long enough time frame to operate a semi auto rifle. A person could open up the gas ports and/ or use lighter weight springs and probably have one operate properly but i wouldn't mess with it if it were my rifle. Having said that if one were to design a gas operated rifle to specifically use these low recoil loads then it will function just fine. However, there are none made. |
RE: Low Recoil Loads
Thanks for info Bigbulls. I was hoping for confirmation that it was the ammo and not my rifle.

RE: Low Recoil Loads
Just another small note about semi auto rifles and the ammo.
Do not use the high energy loads offered by Federal and Hornady either. These loads are not designed to be used in a gas operated rifle. |
