RE: What Bipod
I also prefer the Harris bipods for varmint or hunts where you do little walking. If you are going for antelope where you will be covering allot of territory I recommend the Stoney Point shooting sticks. They are not as stable as the Harris, but weigh next to nothing and this makes a big difference when you will walk all day for a long distance shot.

RE: What Bipod
ORIGINAL: SuperMagnum Another vote here for the Harris. Be sure to get the one with the pivot otherwise you will waste all your time fumbling trying to get the rifle level on uneven terrain. |
RE: What Bipod
I have Harris bipods too. But I also have a bi-pod I got at Cabelas. Its called the Versi-pod. I like this one much better and it doesn't cost as much as a Harris. It comes with 2 bases to put on 2 rifles, and it comes off easily so you can put it in your pack or pocket. You can get this bi-pod in two different lengths depending on how you will be using it - either prone or sitting/kneeling. I got the longer one and my hunting pal got the shorter one. Both use the same bases so we can use whatever we need to at any given time.

RE: What Bipod
I have several Harrises. OK, but they remind me of the '57 Chevy: made when steel was cheap. I think they're overdue for something lighter and more streamlined. They also should remove the sharp edges on the rear so I doesn't gouge your hand during recoil. (I've duct taped some foam on the back of mine. Looks ugly but works.)

RE: What Bipod
I have a versa-pod too, it works great but isn't too handy.

RE: What Bipod
I just mounted the Versa-pod on my 270WSM. I like it a lot better than the Harris on my .308 precision rifle. I just got back from a hunt where I was walking a lot in thicker cover. Simply slip the bipod off when walking and put it back on when needed, usually when I would set up on a cut.
