That is a pretty hot load, most average around 1600 fps with a 300 grn bullet and around 90 to 100 grns of powder, depending on the powder you use. Triple seven with 300 grn bullets and 100 grns of loose powder only gets you between 1700 and 1800 fps. And it burns 15% faster than pyrodex.

You can get faster with more powder, but most guns don't shoot that well with a magnum load.

Are you talking smokless out of your savage?

I think the sabots effect the velocity more than the spin do to friction, and how well they load or not.

But your right, basically what I am saying is that just because some one has a simular gun it doesn't mean what works in thiers will work in yours. You really need to try them. From what I can tell slug guns seem to be a bit more picky in finding a truely accurate load. I feel the Muzzle loaders still have an advantage there. It isn't too hard to find a pretty accurate load for one. My bad groups are better than some of the good groups I see with shotguns. It takes more work sometimes because of the methods, but it is sure cheaper;).

However the same applies to any rifle or handgun. Some just like a different load than a gun that came off the line right before them. That is why handloading is so popular.

Nothing could be more true. My brother and I have the same 12 ga. Remington 870 express slug gun (http://www.remington.com/firearms/shotguns/870exp_slug). We both tested our guns with the same ammunition (Standard Winchester sabots, Copper Solids, and Core-lokts). Out of my gun the Core-lokts shot best. Out of my brothers gun, the Copper Solids shot best. The exact same gun with the same scope under the same conditions, yet both guns produced different results.
