That's what I got - Winchester Model 70 in 7mm-.08 with a Leupold Vari-x 3x9 scope for $700. The serial number indicates that it was made in 1950. I went toa range near Cabela's in PA and got the 1st 3 shots within 3" of each other an one wasdead center. I'm very pleased with my purchase

unless you reload for the SAUM you will end up regreting the purchase once you see the cost and availability of ammo.
Agreed. The SAUM's have not caught on with the general public and with the popularity of the WSM's I don't think they will. I foresee a day when ammo will be hard to find for them.

Ialways buy arifle and caliber combination based on what I plan to use it for the vast majority of the time. Not based on what I might do with it one time5 years from now. If as you stated 99% of the time this is going to be used as a deer rifle then you made the right choice with a 7mm-08. I have one in a Browning A-bolt and I honestly don't think there is a better whitetail cartridge. Mild recoil yet flat trajectory and hot death on deer sized animals. Alsowith a well constructed 140 grain premium bullet like a Swift A-frame, TBBC, Nosler Partition or Winchester Failsafe a 7mm-08 will definately kill a moose or an elk.

NJ I HAVE HUNTED WITH A MODEL 7 7mm08 FOR YEARS .... ALSO HAVE IT IN A THOMPSON ENCORE ... I HUNT NORTH ALABAMA AND OUR DEER DO NOT HAVE THE BIG BODY WEIGHT OF THE DEER UP NORTH BUT THE 7mm08 IS THE TICKET HERE ... I HAVE ALSO HARVESTED 3 CANADIAN DEER TWO GOING WELL OVER 300lbs AND ALL FELL TO THE 7mm08 IN A 139gr BALISTIC TIP ... ALL ONE SHOT KILLS .... SO THE 7mm08 IS A GREAT OVER ALL SELECTION.

agree with all 7-08 fans. Great round. I shoot hornady 139's for deer and nosler 160's for elk.

I have the RemingtonModel 7in 7mm(SAUM).It's one awsome rifle.3/4"
group@ 100 yds. right out of the box with 160gr NP.I've shot 11 deer with it since new.All one shot kills with the longest at 312yds. with a rangefinder.I find ammo reasonable and plentiful if you look in the right places.
