IS THIS A GOOD SETUP FOR 100-200 YARDS?

I have an Inline Stainless Steal OriginalKnight .50 Caliber Muzzleloader with a Leupold 3-9 40mm (3x9x40)scope.SayI shoot 110 grains of Pyrodex pellets andmight getsome200 grain T/C Shockwaves for hunting season.
Is this a good setup foraccurately shooting 100-200 yards away? Is there a better setup forshooting that far?

Thanks :)

Slayer, on the surface it all looks good. BUT my only hesitation would be what kind of power will a 200grn have at 200yds when only fired with 110grns of powder? The Shockwave is simply a repackaged Hornady SST and I know them personally to be GREAT bullets and they penetrate like few others. BUT that's from experience with my customers firing 250-300grn versions from 150grn Encore/Omegas and mine and a few friends who use max loads in our Savage smokeless guns.

I am interested by the 200s strictly from a trajectory point of view, but they are very light for their caliber (poor sectional density and ballistic coef) so they shed velocity very quickly. That is why I would hesitate to put full faith into them without a test or two on animals to see what happens, they might not retain enough velocity/penetration @200yds to reliably do their job where they would if they were 250 or 300grn versions.

PLEASE get back with us on this matter, I am very interested on the 200s performance at long range!

200 yards for a newbie with ML is a far way. Might be tough getting good accuracy with 110gr of powder. Might be easy. I know my most accurate load with a wolverine is 90-95gr of pyrodex and 240gr XTP. Setup 2" high at 100 gives me like 15" of drop at 200. Stick with under 100 yards is my suggestion.

I don't think it's possible to shoot 110 gr of pellets in a 50 cal.,unless they came out with a new weight I haven't heard of [&:]

You can't shoot a 1-50 and 2-30's= 110grs.? Pyrodex makes them both!

You will have to go shoot this type load and find out for yourself,a load in one guys gun that works great doesn,t mean it will shoot good in yours!!!! Readup some more on loads in books and try them out for yourself is the only way that i know of. Using someone elses loads is a good place to start. vangunsmith

I think that load might be all right for deer size animals. Although I would be sure to make some practice shots and make sure I could place my shots. That is a long way to shoot but you do have some excellent equipment...

practice will tell the real story..

Try this in ur gun. 90-100grns powder, and a 185grn Barnes-X. I have killed deer at 250 yds with my knight muzzleloader

The best bullet there ever will be is a powerbelt. Very accurate and I dont care what others say, it penetrates like theres no tomorrow. I had complete pass throughs onthe 2deer Ive shot with my muzzleloader from 50-110yds. I was using 120gr of pyrodex and a 245gr powerbelt aerotip on one deer and 120gr of pyrodex/295gr powerbelt on the other. And the blood trail was good enough that a blind man could follow it.
