22-250 vs. 243

I have a 243 winchester and it shoots farther more accurately then my uncles 22-250 remington. Is this normal i heard alot of stuff about the22-250 about bein the best groundhog gun so on so on. And mine does its total to a groundhog. Is the 243 better or did i just get a good gun?

Lots and lots of factors to consider. LOL

neither holds much credibility when they say they're a longer range gun over the other. For chucks where the number of shots is small compared to a prairie dog shoot I'd prefer the .243 and for a prairie dog shoot I'd prefer the .22-250. However to switch them around wouldn't be a highly noticible issue either. Both are excellent varmint cartridges.

.243 is probably the 3rd best varmint cartridge out there. The 6mm remington and .220 swift would be 1st and 2nd IMO.
If you reload then load some 70gr ballistic tips in it and give the chucks hell. If you dont reload then use the winchester supreme 55gr ammo.

Ah.....welllll.....ok but the difference in any of them is close to the difference between 6 and half a dozen.

the 243 and 6mm will do a better job at longer ranges, WHEN weather is a factor. They will shoot larger bullets which tend to stay the course better in wind ect...IF the wind is calm...its tough to beat the old 22-250.

Depends on the Rifle and shooter as far as accuracy is concerned. It's obvious the .243 will have better down range energy than the .22-250 but that does NOT make it a more accurate round.

Here's what I shot at 100 yrds. benchrest with the M700 BDL CD in .22-250. 3 shots.
