Help Me Please!
 

Hey you hunters my name is diego and I wish to become part of the small game hunting community. Only problem is I have no rifle. I was hoping you more experienced hunters could instruct me as to what rifle I should be buying. I plan to kill pigeons, crows, iguana’s and maybe a little bigger animal like a chicken. I was thinking of buying a daisy 0.177 that has a speed of 750 fps. Do you guys think this rifle is good enough or do I need a 0.22? This is the biggest question I have since the daisy is much cheaper than any of the 0.22 and comes with a scope. Please help me I don’t want to buy the 0.177 and then not be able to hunt anything. At least a 22LR Rimfire. You can kill all the animals (besides chickent) with a pellet gun, but you need something more IMO for killing.

Okay thanks for your opinion it is very much apreciated. I do not have much money what about how many fps does a 0.22 has to travel to kill these animals. Is a 555 fps 0.22 good enough. Also how does a 0.177 at 750 fps compare to a 0.22 at 555fps. At killing small game

A 22 rimfire kicks a 32gr bullet about 1200-1600fps. Are you talking pellet gun only?

yes pellet gun air rifle I really want to hunt small animals and my father would probably not buy me anything with gun powder. The question is 0.177 vs 0.22 in hunting small game both in pellet air rifle form.

all illegal to kill here, where the heck you find an igauna??? NEwho, when i was younger i used a .177 to shoot snakes and birds like most youngsters. My friends had a .22 that sucked because it only pumped once. i would pump the .177 like 25=30 times before a shot, now i know that wasnt safe either =) Live/Learn

I would pick the 17 cal. Pellets are easier to find. And they make some pretty powerful ones these days from Gamo and others.

I have a solution for u, a crosman .22 cal pellet rifle i own one and have killed several rabbit with it your chicken will be no match, heres the link look for the 2200 mag and then go to links and you will find several places that carry it.

In my opinion and experience, a .177 caliber pellet needs to do at least 900 FPS to start being effective. I've seen rabbits and such killed with slower guns (700-800 FPS), but you have to get close. GAMO makes some decent air rifles that are rated at 1000 FPS in .177, and they are not TOO expensive.
A .22 has a higher trajectory than a .177, but has more energy. A .177 penetrates better, has a flatter trajectory, but is affected by wind more.

My 17 cal does around 1000F/Sec and it kills rabbits pretty well. It's RWS and one cock of the barrel is all it takes. Accuracy is excellent for the ranfges I use it.

Darn things run a little over $200 but they really work.
